갈라디아서 2:16 사람이 의롭게 되는 것은 율법의 행위에서 난 것이 아니요 오직 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 말미암는 줄 아는 고로 우리도 그리스도 예수를 믿나니 이는 우리가 율법의 행위에서 아니고 그리스도를 믿음으로써 의롭다 함을 얻으려 함이라 율법의 행위로서는 의롭다 함을 얻을 육체가 없느니라.

율법의 행위로는 아무도 구원받지 못합니다. 율법의 행위에는 구약의 제사법과 십계명을 지키는 것이 포함됩니다. 구약의 제사법은 예수님이 오심으로 그 역할을 마쳤으며, 십계명을 완전하게 지킬 수 있는 사람도 없습니다. 이제는 예수 그리스도를 믿고 자신의 죄를 회개함으로 죄 사함을 받는 시대입니다.

참된 회개에는 합당한 사랑의 열매가 따라야 합니다. 구약 시대에는 외적인 행위가 중요하게 다루어졌지만, 지금은 성령께서 오셔서 사람의 마음 중심을 살피십니다. 그러므로 예수님을 구원자로 믿는 자는 이웃을 용서하고 사랑하는 마음을 가져야 합니다.

우리는 마음과 힘과 정성을 다하여 하나님을 믿고 사랑의 열매를 맺어야 합니다. 사랑의 열매란 자신에게 주어진 믿음과 능력과 여건과 환경 속에서 이웃을 용서하고 사랑하는 것입니다. 그러나 우리는 온전하지 못하기 때문에 자신의 부족함과 죄를 날마다 회개해야 합니다.

지금은 성령과 동행하는 시대입니다. 성령과 동행하는 자가 세상을 떠날 때 성령께서 그를 천국으로 인도하십니다. 그러나 죄를 짓고도 회개하지 않는 자는 마귀를 따르게 되고, 마지막에는 지옥으로 끌려가는 것입니다.

율법의 행위로는 아무도 온전해질 수 없습니다. 그러나 자신의 죄를 회개하고 예수님께 순종하는 자는 주님의 용서를 받습니다. 참된 회개에는 순종이 포함되어 있습니다. 그 순종은 이웃을 용서하고 사랑하며 서로 화목하기를 힘쓰는 것입니다.

이렇게 순종하기를 힘쓰는 자를 하나님께서는 믿음 있는 자로 여기시고 긍휼히 여기십니다. 비록 그의 행위가 율법의 완전한 기준에는 미치지 못할지라도, 자신의 부족함을 회개하며 주님의 말씀에 순종할 때 예수님께서 그의 죄를 용서하시고 구원하십니다.

예수님께서 말씀하신 일만 달란트 빚진 자의 비유가 이것을 잘 보여 줍니다. 주인은 갚을 수 없는 큰 빚을 모두 탕감해 주었습니다. 그러나 탕감받은 자가 자기에게 작은 빚을 진 사람을 용서하지 않았을 때, 그가 받았던 탕감은 취소되었습니다.

그러므로 입으로 예수님을 믿는다고 하면서 이웃을 용서하지 않고 사랑의 열매를 맺지 않는 믿음은 구원에 이르는 참된 믿음이 아닙니다. 참된 믿음은 날마다 죄를 회개하고 주님의 말씀에 순종하며, 이웃을 용서하고 사랑하는 열매를 맺는 믿음입니다.

Galatians 2:16

A man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. We also have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

No one can be saved by the works of the law. The works of the law include observing the Old Testament sacrificial laws and keeping the Ten Commandments. The Old Testament sacrificial system fulfilled its role with the coming of Jesus, and no human being can perfectly keep the Ten Commandments. Now is the time when people receive forgiveness of sins by believing in Jesus Christ and repenting of their sins.

True repentance must be accompanied by the proper fruit of love. In the Old Testament era, outward actions were given great importance, but now the Holy Spirit has come and examines the heart of each person. Therefore, those who believe in Jesus as their Savior must have a heart that forgives and loves their neighbors.

We must believe in God with all our heart, strength, and devotion, and bear the fruit of love. The fruit of love means forgiving and loving our neighbors according to the faith, ability, circumstances, and opportunities given to us. However, because we are not perfect, we must repent daily of our shortcomings and sins.

Now is the age of walking with the Holy Spirit. When a person who walks with the Holy Spirit leaves this world, the Holy Spirit leads that person to heaven. But those who sin and do not repent follow the devil, and in the end they are dragged into hell.

No one can become perfect through the works of the law. But those who repent of their sins and obey Jesus receive the Lord’s forgiveness. True repentance includes obedience. That obedience means forgiving and loving our neighbors and striving to live in peace with one another.

God regards those who strive to obey in this way as people of faith and shows them mercy. Although their deeds may fall short of the perfect standard of the law, when they repent of their shortcomings and obey the words of the Lord, Jesus forgives their sins and saves them.

Jesus’ parable of the servant who owed ten thousand talents clearly shows this. The master completely canceled the enormous debt that the servant could never repay. But when the servant who had been forgiven refused to forgive someone who owed him a small debt, the forgiveness he had received was revoked.

Therefore, faith that merely professes belief in Jesus with the mouth, while refusing to forgive one’s neighbors and failing to bear the fruit of love, is not true faith that leads to salvation. True faith is faith that repents of sin daily, obeys the words of the Lord, and bears the fruit of forgiving and loving one’s neighbors.
