출생 : 1919년 5월 3일, 미국 뉴욕 주 뉴욕 시 맨해튼
사망 : 2014년 1월 27일(향년 94세), 미국 뉴욕 주 뉴욕 시 맨해튼
국적 : 미국
직업 : 싱어송라이터, 음악가

이 노래는 인류의 숙명적 대량 살육의 전쟁에서 희생된 젊은이를 진혼하는 의미를 
담고있는 반전가요입니다. 한국의 6,25, 동란과 베트남 전쟁을 배경으로 쓰여진 곡이며, 
1955년에 Pete Seeger 자신이 작사 작곡 하였답니다

음악가, 가수, 작곡가, 민속학자, 노동운동가, 환경론자, 평화 옹호자 등의 수식어가 붙는
20세기 folk 가수들의 대부인 Pete Seeger는 1919년 New York에서 태어났습니다. 
그의 아버지 Charles Seeger는 저명한 음대 교수였고, 그의 어머니 Constance Seeger는 
바이올린 연주가였기에 그가 음악적인 환경에서 자란 것은 너무나 자명한 일이었지요. 
1936년 그는 난생 처음으로 5현악기 Banjo 연주 음악을 들었는데, 
이를 계기로 그의 인생에 전환점이 되였답니다.

Harvard 대학을 중퇴하고 1940년 Woody Guthrie와 Almanac Singers라는 Group을 결성했지요. 
그 후 40년대 후반에는 Weavers라는 Group을 결성하여 자신의 이름을 널리 알리기 시작합니다. 
그의 유명한 Folk Song으로는 "Where Have All the Flowers Gone", "We Shall Overcome",
"If I Had a Hammer", "Turn! Turn! Turn!" 등이 있습니다.
