갈라디아서 4:6-11 너희가 아들인고로 하나님이 그 아들의 영을 우리 마음 가운데 보내사 아바 아버지라 부르게 하셨느니라 그러므로 네가 이 후로는 종이 아니요 아들이니 아들이면 하나님으로 말미암아 유업을 이을 자니라 그러나 너희가 그 때에는 하나님을 알지 못하여 본질상 하나님이 아닌 자들에게 종노릇 하였더니 이제는 너희가 하나님을 알뿐더러 하나님의 아신바 되었거늘 어찌하여 다시 약하고 천한 초등 학문으로 돌아가서 다시 저희에게 종노릇 하려 하느냐 너희가 날과 달과 절기와 해를 삼가 지키니 내가 너희를 위하여 수고한 것이 헛될까 두려워 하노라

예수 그리스도를 믿을 때 하나님의 아들이 되고 성령을 받습니다. 성령은 예수의 영이며 하나님의 영이십니다. 하나님은 영원히 한 분이십니다. 성령께서 우리로 하나님을 “아바 아버지”라 부르게 하십니다. 아들의 영을 받은 자는 더 이상 종이 아니라 하나님의 자녀입니다.

하나님의 자녀는 하나님의 나라를 유업으로 받습니다. 하나님을 알지 못했을 때 우리는 본질상 하나님이 아닌 자들에게 종노릇하였습니다. 그러나 이제는 우리가 하나님을 아버지라 부르고, 하나님께서는 우리를 자녀로 삼으셨습니다.

하나님의 자녀가 된 자들이 다시 세상의 초등 학문으로 돌아가서 예수님이 오시기 전에 지켰던 구약 시대의 날과 절기를 지켜서는 안 됩니다. 그렇게 한다면 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 얻은 은혜를 헛되게 하는 것입니다. 구약 시대의 제사와 절기는 장차 오실 예수님을 예표하였습니다. 실체이신 예수님이 세상에 오셨으므로 그림자와 같았던 구약의 제도는 그 역할을 다한 것입니다.

성령을 받은 자들은 형식적인 종교의식에 매이지 않고 성령의 인도하심을 따라 살아야 합니다. 주님의 말씀에 불순종하고 회개하지 않으면서 그저 주일예배에 참석하는 것만으로 신앙생활을 다했다고 생각한다면, 이것 역시 형식적인 종교의식에 머무는 것입니다.

성령은 우리의 마음 안에 들어오셔서 우리와 함께 살아가시는 하나님이십니다. 우리는 성령의 인도하심을 따라 죄를 회개하고 하나님의 말씀에 순종하며 항상 주님과 동행해야 합니다.

Galatians 4:6-11

Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

When we believe in Jesus Christ, we become children of God and receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus and the Spirit of God. God is eternally one. The Holy Spirit enables us to call God, “Abba, Father.” Those who have received the Spirit of the Son are no longer slaves but children of God.

The children of God inherit the kingdom of God. When we did not know God, we were enslaved to those who by nature are not gods. But now we call God our Father, and God has made us His children.

Those who have become children of God must not return to the elementary principles of the world and observe the days and religious festivals of the Old Testament era that were observed before Jesus came. To do so would be to make vain the grace received through faith in Jesus Christ. The sacrifices and festivals of the Old Testament foreshadowed Jesus who was to come. Now that Jesus, the reality to which they pointed, has come into the world, those Old Testament institutions, which were like shadows, have fulfilled their role.

Those who have received the Holy Spirit should not be bound by formal religious rituals but should live according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If a person disobeys the Lord’s Word and refuses to repent, yet thinks that simply attending Sunday worship is sufficient for a life of faith, that too is merely remaining in formal religious observance.

The Holy Spirit is God who comes into our hearts and lives with us. Following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we must repent of our sins, obey the Word of God, and always walk with the Lord.
