SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday pledged to expand policy support for the manufacturing industry to help boost economic growth and create jobs.
​
Lee made the remarks during a meeting with chief executives of small and medium-sized enterprises at Saesol Diamond, a semiconductor tool manufacturer based in Ansan, just south of Seoul.
​
"The manufacturing industry plays a major role in employment. Small but strong firms and capable manufacturers must continue to grow and develop," Lee said. "Our government is paying keen attention to this and is making efforts to provide support."
​
He stressed that South Korea faces the dual tasks of recovery and sustainable growth to improve people's livelihoods.
​
"Many things have been abnormal, and we are in the process of restoring them to normal. We are in a stage of rapid recovery," he added.

(서울=연합뉴스) 고동욱 기자 = 이재명 대통령은 3일 "강소기업, 또 역량 있는 제조업이 성장·발전해야 한다"고 밝혔다.

이 대통령은 이날 경기도 안산의 한 중견 제조기업을 찾아 진행한 'K-제조업 기업현장 간담회'에서 "먹고 사는 문제의 핵심은 결국 기업이 지속해서 성장하고 발전하는 것"이라며 이같이 말했다.

이 대통령은 "특히 국민의 일자리라는 측면에서 보면 제조업이 정말 중요하다"며 "정부도 관심을 많이 가지고 있고 지원할 수 있도록 노력하고 있다"고 강조했다.

또 "우리 대한민국의 가장 큰 과제는 회복과 성장이라고 압축적으로 말씀드릴 수 있다"며 "많은 것들이 비정상화돼 있는데, 정상으로 회복하는 과정이 진행 중이고 빠르게 회복되고 있다고 판단한다"고 언급했다.

이 대통령은 "문제는 다시 성장을 회복하는 것"이라며 "지속적인 성장을 통해 기회를 만들고 그 기회 속에서 국민이 더 나은 삶을 설계하도록 하는 것이 정부가 해야 할 중요한 정책 과제"라고 말했다.
