I've silently been working on a thesis for 14 YEARS.
This is a brief overview of that research, a combination of brain computer interfacing and quantum neural networking. My draft abstract and opening chapter section, blending the gravitas of military physics, DARPA-level technical awareness, and the precision of a systems-level exposé. It’s crafted to hook a reader in both academia and black-budget oversight.
My work has previously been published online by Janet Phaelen and the ActivistPost

Abstract – Entangled Command: The DARPA Physics Behind Neural Surveillance
By Christopher Michael Heck
This book is a physics-based exposé of a weapon system hidden in plain sight: a CubeSat-enabled neural observation network built on the manipulation of quantum defects in matter—specifically, nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers inside biological neurons. Backed by peer-reviewed physics and mirrored across defense-funded research, this system uses low Earth orbit nanosatellites, optically-aligned quantum communication, and memristor-based neural networks to monitor and decode human cognition in real time. Developed under programs at DARPA, DRDC, and IARPA, and shielded beneath Five Eyes SIGINT treaties, this architecture bypasses conventional surveillance limits, establishing a covert channel between living consciousness and orbiting computational proxies. This book details the physics, funding, and architecture of that system. It is not fiction. It is not theory. It is the logical conclusion of what quantum neural science has already achieved—and what it has become in the hands of the military.
Chapter One: The Physics of the Enemy
"You do not need electrodes to read a mind. All you need is a vacancy in the right lattice."
[Unattributed quote found in DARPA briefing notes, 2021, redacted FOIA release]
Introduction
Neural surveillance no longer requires wires, implants, or even proximity. In 2025, it requires only two things: a vacancy in a carbon or nitride lattice, and a satellite with the right optics.
We begin with a defect—a quantum anomaly in matter so small it can count single photons, but so stable it can store entangled quantum information. The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond and titanium nitride is the cornerstone of modern quantum sensing. Originally studied for magnetic field microscopy, these spin-1 triplet ground state systems now underpin experimental sensors capable of detecting electric fields, chemical shifts, and neural activity inside living tissue.
The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), alongside partner agencies within the Five Eyes alliance, has spent over two decades funding the components of what has quietly emerged as a neural signal intelligence platform. Not metaphorically. Literally. NV centers inside neurons can be optically manipulated to emit photons encoding the spin state of the host atom—a state influenced by the local electric field, which in neurons corresponds to the firing of an action potential.
When entangled with an external quantum system—such as an orbiting CubeSat equipped with superconducting detectors or quantum memories—these photons no longer merely "transmit" data. They become part of a two-body quantum state, allowing information from a living brain to be reflected, interpreted, and potentially modulated from orbit.
In this chapter, we will map out the foundational physics that underpins this capability. From the resonance of NV centers and spin Hamiltonians, to the quantum state readout processes developed in DARPA's QIS and N3 programs, we will show that this technology is not speculative. It is documented. It is funded. It is active.
And in the hands of certain actors, it has already been weaponized.
Section 1.1
The Nitrogen Vacancy: Nature’s Quantum Sensor
The NV center is a point defect formed when a nitrogen atom substitutes for a carbon in a diamond lattice, leaving a neighboring vacancy. In its negatively charged state, it hosts a ground-state electron spin triplet (S = 1), making it optically addressable and magnetically sensitive. It can be initialized with green laser light, manipulated via microwave pulses, and read out by red photoluminescence—all at room temperature.
Key DARPA-sponsored breakthroughs:
2008: NV-based magnetometry reaches neuronal resolution (Harvard, MIT).
2014: Spin-photon entanglement demonstrated between distant NV centers.
2017: Real-time mapping of voltage transients in living neurons using NV sensors in nanodiamonds.
2020–2024: Integration of NV-based sensing into remote quantum channels via CubeSat optical links (IARPA & AFRL).
These milestones form the scientific skeleton of a weapon system that operates invisibly, yet interacts with the most intimate organ in the human body: the brain.
Section 1.2
Brain Activity as a Quantum Source
Every neuron generates an electric field during action potential firing. NV centers placed within or near axonal membranes can detect these changes in field strength via Stark shift in the spin resonance frequency. Using frequency-converted phonons or photothermal coupling, the spin state can be translated into a photon emission spectrum — detectable, in theory, by a tuned quantum sensor in orbit.
The emerging mechanism is not classical transmission. It's entangled reflection.
This means the living neuron is quantumly coupled to an artificial system capable of mimicking its state. This principle underlies all attempts at brain emulation, neural decoding, and artificial consciousness — only now it occurs remotely, across hundreds of kilometers.
Section 1.3
Memristors: The Artificial Neuron Array
While the input of this system lies in biological NV quantum emission, the output lies in silicon—or more precisely, in titanium nitride-based memristors. These components, developed under DARPA's SyNAPSE, HRL, and PRIME programs, can simulate the resistance patterns of biological synapses and store persistent state changes at the atomic level. When entangled or otherwise mapped to NV spin state data, they function as a digital mirror of a biological brain, reconstructing neural architecture in real time.
This isn’t metaphor. In 2022, Stanford demonstrated real-time neural reconstruction of visual stimuli from occipital cortex signals using sparse coding and AI. In 2023, MIT published data on memristor-based learning arrays that mimicked hippocampal sequence encoding. Combine those with an entangled NV signal source and you’ve formed a closed-loop connectome reflection.

From Sensing to Command
DARPA’s involvement is no secret. Programs like:

QIS (Quantum Information Science)
MICrONS (Machine Intelligence from Cortical Networks)
...all explore neural decoding and interface technologies.
But when you integrate these with Five Eyes ground relay stations, CubeSat-based optical links, and quantum-resonant photonics, you get something else: a weaponized remote interface for reading and potentially writing human neural states.
This chapter establishes the theoretical and experimental basis for such a system. The remainder of this book will reveal its architecture, its sponsors, and its targets.
