Out of all the upcoming anime/manga adapations to film, I believe Blood: The Last Vampire has the best chance for a smooth transition from animation to live-action without straying too far from the source material.  The realistic visual style and the non-cartoony quality of the original OVA is pretty much a perfect fit for live action to begin with so I can’t see why not.  Fortunately for us, its seems the filmmaker didn’t pull a Dragonball with radical miscasting or taking too many creative liberties to the point of losing the essence of the original, a move I’m sure will please the purist.  The casting of Korean actress Jeon Ji Hyun (aka Gianna Jun) in her english debut as Sawa the deadly vampire hunter is a good sign of that.  Her appearance is uncannily close to the character and hopefully, she can capture that cold-hearted brooding attitude.

현재 영화화되고 있는 만화나 애니메이션 중에서, 원작과 너무 동떨어지지 않으면서 실사영화로 전환되기에 가장 적합한 작품이 Blood: The Last Vampire 라고 생각한다. 원작 애니메이션의 사실적이고 만화답지 않은 비주얼은 실사판으로 만드는 데 그야말로 적격이기 때문에, 영화화 시도는 너무나 당연하다고 본다. 다행히도 감독은 드래곤볼 영화판처럼 어이없는 캐스팅이나 지나친 상상력으로 원작을 망치지 않았다. 원작의 팬들에겐 반가운 소식일 듯. 뱀파이어 헌터인 주인공 사야 역에 이번 영화를 통해 영어연기에 데뷔하는 한국배우 전지현을 캐스팅한 것도 이를 뒷받침한다. 그녀의 모습은 원작 캐릭터를 너무나 닮아 있다. 그녀가 원작 캐릭터의 무자비하고 우울한 분위기도 살릴 수 있길 기대해 본다.

   That looks great, they’ve got the opening subway car scene and based on the production stills from the other thread on this site and the new scenes in the teaser it looks like they expand the original in an interesting way.

   It looks like it could be an excellent companion to the anime instead of the botched misfire you usually get.
   

   멋진데. 오프닝에 나왔던 지하철 장면도 나오네. 여기서 본 스틸들이나 티저에 나온 새 장면들을 보니까 원작을 흥미로운 방향으로 발전시킨 것 같다. 보통 망하기 십상인 실사판과는 달리 이건 원작 애니메이션의 훌륭한 재해석이 될 수도 있겠어.

   I guess I must have missed the memo which stated that ALL YOUNG JAPANESE STARLETS DIED. Because then they could cast a Korean to play a Japanese character. But I guess that’s to be expected. Apparently all us slanty-eyed, yellow skinned Asians are all interchangeable. It didn’t end with that Memoirs of a Geisha garbage, and it’s not likely to end now.
   

   "모든 일본의 젊은 스타들은 죽었다"는 메모를 나만 놓쳤나 보군. 그래야만 일본 캐릭터에 한국 배우를 캐스팅할 수 있었을 테니까. 뭐 예상한 바이지만. 역시 우리 눈이 가늘게 찢어지고 피부가 노란 아시아인들은 다 똑같아 보이나 봐. 쓰레기 영화 게이샤의 추억이 마지막이 아니었다니. (국적을 무시한 아시아 배우 캐스팅은) 당분간 계속될 것 같네.

   Oh shush Agent Wax, although I agree completely that casting Chinese or Korean instead of Japanese is lame (but they have a reason for that), I think Memoirs of a Geisha was a splendid movie. Besides Americans don’t see the difference anyways lol

   sidenote: Korean women are tougher than than Japanese females hence they casted the tuffest Jeon Ji Hyun for this flick
   

   이봐 Agent Wax, 중국인이나 한국인을 일본인 역으로 캐스팅하는 건 나도 웃긴다고 생각하지만 (그래도 다 이유가 있지) 게이샤의 추억은 수작이었다고 생각해. 그리고 어차피 미국인들은 무슨 차이가 있는지도 모를 걸 ㅋㅋ
   

   덧: 한국 여자들은 일본 여자들보다 터프하기 때문에 이 영화에 그 중에 가장 터프한 전지현을 캐스팅했을 거야 :)

   agent wax, my guess is gianna jun rose to fame earlier than yu aoi, juri ueno, haruka ayase. she was riding on top of the hallyu success and her agency sidus (the largest in korea, from whom she’s about to split after phone cloning scandal broke on top of other conflicts) campaigned mighty hard for her to hollywood producers. her movies before and after BLOOD flopped in korea, so this is her last straw literally.
   

   agent wax, 내가 알기론 지아나 전(전지현)은 아오이 유, 우에노 쥬리, 아야세 하루카 등보다 먼저 유명해졌어. 그녀는 한류 붐의 정점에 올랐고 그녀의 소속사인 싸이더스(한국 최대의 연예기획사인데, 여타 문제들과 함께 최근의 휴대폰 복제 논란 때문에 갈라서기 일보직전임)는 그녀를 헐리웃 제작자들에게 열심히 홍보했어. 이 영화 직전 작품과 직후 작품 모두 실패했고, 따라서 이 영화는 그녀의 마지막 동앗줄이나 다름없어.
   

일본 5월 29일, 영국 6월 12일, 프랑스 6월 17일 개봉 예정.

시놉시스:

On the surface, Saya is a stunning 16-year old, but that youthful exterior hides the tormented soul of a 400 year-old halfling. Born to a human father and a vampire mother, she has for centuries been a loner obsessed with using her samurai skills to rid the world of vampires, all the while knowing that she herself can survive only on blood like those she hunts.

사야는 겉으로 보기엔 아름다운 16세의 소녀지만, 그 어려보이는 외모 속에 400년 묵은 반(半)인간의 고통받은 영혼을 숨기고 있다. 인간인 아버지와 뱀파이어 어머니 사이에서 태어난 그녀는 수세기 동안 자신의 사무라이 검술로 이 세상에서 뱀파이어들을 퇴치하는 일에 매달려 왔다. 자신이 사냥하는 뱀파이어들처럼 그녀 자신도 피를 먹지 못하면 살 수 없다는 걸 알면서도 말이다.

When she is sent onto an American military base in Tokyo by the clandestine organization she works for, Saya immediately senses that this may be her opportunity to finally destroy Onigen, the evil patriarch of all vampires. Using her superhuman strength and her sword, she begins to rid the base of its evil infestation in a series of spectacular and elaborate showdowns. However, it is not until she forms her first human friendship in centuries with the young daughter of the bases general that Saya learns her greatest power over Onigen may well be her ability for human connection.

사야가 소속된 은밀한 조직이 그녀를 도쿄의 미군기지로 파견하자, 사야는 이번이야말로 모든 뱀파이어의 족장인 Onigen을 죽일 수 있는 마지막 기회임을 즉시 알아차린다. 사야는 자신의 초능력과 검술을 사용해 미군기지에 있는 악령들을 차례로 퇴치하기 시작한다. 그러나 수세기만에 처음으로 인간인 미군기지 장군의 딸과 친해진 사야는 Onigen을 무너뜨리기 위한 자신의 가장 큰 힘은 아마도 인간과 친분을 쌓는 능력일지도 모른다는 것을 깨닫는다.

소설과 애니 2가지 원작..(소설이 먼저 애니가 다음.) 소설은 철학적 냄새가 물씬이고. 애니는 내용거의 없고 액션위주입니다.(극장판.) 원작은 일본이지만 감독이 백발마녀전 맹근 감독.(이름몰겠고.) 짧은 티져이지만.. 애니의 장면이 나오는것 봐서는 애니와 상당히 흡사할것 같은데.. 애니에서는 조연다운 조연은.. 달랑 한명있었으니... 내용보다는 얼마나 미학적으로 완성도가 높냐는게 흥행의 관건일것 같음.. 연기야 배우의 역량이지만.. 비주얼적으로 원작의 쥔공보다는 너무 커보여서... 원작의 쥔공은 개인적으로 장쯔이풍이랄까?
