Jisu Tomorrow is Korean Liberation Day. It's a significant day in Korean history.
​Sam Oh, yeah, that's what I hear. What are you commemorating?
​Jisu It marks the end of Japanese colonial rule in 1945. It's called "Gwangbokjeol" in Korean, and it means "restoration of light."
​Sam Wow, is that right?/ ​Jisu Yes. We honor those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
​Sam I see. As the saying goes, "Freedom isn't free."/ Sam I wonder how Koreans reacted to the news.
​Jisu My grandmother told me that people took to the streets cheering and waving our national flag.
​Sam That sounds incredible!  You know, I love learning about different cultures and their significant celebrations.

​Jisu 그날은 1945년 일본의 식민 통치가 끝난 날이야.한국어로 '광복절'이라고 하는데, 그 뜻은 '빛을 다시 찾았다'는 거야.
