Josh's Idiom 1 - Rule of Thumb |
|
1. “A rule of thumb”
Example: M: Are you sure that dad wanted the sugar in his coffee? W: I think so; he usually takes his coffee, double, double, doesn't he? M: Yes, but after his last medical check up, the doctor told him to avoid sweets. W: Okay, as a rule of thumb, I’ll just get back coffee and bring him two packages of sugar and two packages of cream.
Definition: uncertain, both can be correct or incorrect.
Explanation: The thumb up sign is positive and when you have two thumbs up then both are equally positive therefore causing an impasse, thus having two equal positions.
Please use the idiom
“a
rule of thumb”
and try to make two sentences. I will correct your mistakes
if there are any. :-) Copyright 2003 Jimstoeic reserved |
