Clivia seed is one of the easiest seed to germinate.

1.Work with FRESH seed.Arrange to have your seed ready for sowing in July ,Aug. before weather warms up and the "baddies " ( GOGGAS, Insects ) become active.

2.  Don`t handle seed ,medium , and containers with bare fingers.  Wear disposable gloves!

3. Sterilize seed ,medium and containers properly.

4. Germinating medium should just be damp ***not wet,no water should run to the bottom of the germinating container.

5. Make sure seeds aren`t dehydrated. Soak in clean water for a day or 3 if unsure.

  ****  THIS IS IMPORTANT ***If the seed is dehydrated, the membrane on the seed will be hard and the root will not be able to emerge. The root will then die and rot in the seed, leaving a hole that looks like a worm has burrowed it`s way in.This rotting matter attracts the gnats and then all sorts of problems begin.

6. Cover your seed in the container and place in a warm area.

7. When the seed has germinated and the first leaf appears, plant out.Take all the same hygiene precautions as with the germinating of seed.

8. Most important, don`t overwater your seedlings, allow the medium to almost dry out between watering.
