We Are One! / We are One!”
We are One!”

We Are One! We are One! “We are One!”
There are monuments to Korea’s participation in the Korean War all over Canada, and there is also a monument to the Battle of Gapyeong in Airdrie, Alberta. Canada is a very grateful country that fought together for a small country in the East that we didn’t even know about. In order to pay back a small spiritual tribute, “We are One!” was dedicated to Canada and Canadian soldiers who helped Korea on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Korea and the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice. The piece, which was delivered to Andy Maximus Choi, the chairman of the Calgary Korean Association of Alberta, partially quotes the melody, harmony, and rhythm of the Korean and Canadian national anthems, symbolically expressing the close friendship between the two countries.
Composer Kim Han-ki, who wrote this piece, graduated from Keimyung University College of Music and its graduate school (violin major), and Michigan State University graduate school in the U.S. (M.M. violin major). He performed at the 40th New Artists’ Music Concert of Chosun Ilbo, served as the conductor of Michigan State University and Hillsdale College Community Orchestra, performed the Austra Salzburg Mozarteum Master Class (Aktive Kurs), toured four cities including Tokyo, Japan, served as the conductor of the Daegu City Symphony Orchestra and the first conductor of the Changwon City Symphony Orchestra and Keimyung Chamber Orchestra, released a CD of performances of veteran composer Kim Kuk-jin’s violin sanjo and piano trio, and served as an advising professor at the Daegu-Prague International Music Camp. In 1982, he won a prize at the 14th Nanpa Music Festival (the first Korean to win in the composition category), and in 1983, he won the gold prize at the Daegu Metropolitan City Promotion Contest. His publications include 'Violin Quartets for Children', 'Hymns for Violin Duos', 'Hymns for Violin and Viola Duos', 'Hymns for Cello and Piano', 'String Quartets - Children's Songs and Folk Songs', and 'Variations for String Quartets on Hymns' Themes. He served as the 12th Dean of the College of Music at Changwon National University.
