The Dharma Body not in the Features
"What do you think, Subhuti? Can the Tathagata be recognized from His thirty-two physical characteristics?" Subhuti replied, "Yes, yes, the Tathagata may be recognized from His thirty-two physical characteristics."
The Buddha said to Subhuti, "If the Tathagata can be recognized from His thirty-two physical characteristics, the Cakravartin is also a Tathagata." Subhuti said to the Buddha, "World Honoured One, in accordance with the meaning of the Buddha's teaching that I understood, the Tathagata in the matter of course cannot be recognized from His thirty-two physical characteristics." Thereupon, the World Honoured One recited the following stanza: "If one wants to see me from my appearance, if one wants to seek me from my sound, the man walks on a evil path. He can never see the Tathagata."
Chapter 26.
Then the Buddha inquired of Subhuti: "What do you think Subhuti? Is it possible to recognize the Buddha by the 32 physical marks?" Subhuti replied, "Yes, Most Honored One, the Buddha may thus be recognized." "Subhuti, if that were true then Chakravartin, the mythological king who also had the 32 marks, would be called a Buddha." Then Subhuti, realizing his error, said, "Most Honored One, now I realize that the Buddha cannot be recognized merely by his 32 physical marks of excellence." The Buddha then said: "Should anyone, looking at an image or likeness of the Buddha, claim to know the Buddha and worship him, that person would be mistaken, not knowing the true Buddha."

Section ⅩⅩⅥ. The Body of Truth has no Marks
Subhuti, what do you think? May the Tathagata be perceived by the thirty-two marks 〔of a great man〕? Subhuti answered: Yes, certainly the Tathagata may be perceived thereby. Then Buddha said: Subhuti, if the Tathagata may be perceived by such marks any great imperial ruler is the same as the Tathagata. Subhuti then said to Buddha: World-honoured One, as I understand the meaning of Buddha`s words the Tathagata may not be perceived by the thirty-two marks. Whereupon the World-honoured One uttered this verse: Who sees Me by form, Who seeks Me in sound, Perverted are his footsteps upon the Way; For he cannot perceive the Tathagata.
