Ex-star players to broadcast World Cup
Three television networks are expected to stage a fierce battle for viewers during the upcoming Brazil World Cup.
A preliminary of sorts took place when MBC broadcast the national team's tune-up match against Tunisia.
Two former star players — Ahn Jung-hwan and Song Jong-gook — both of whom were in the Korean side that reached the final four in the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup provided commentary.
Kim Sung-joo, (a sports broadcaster of celebrity status), joined them.
The trio received positive reviews about their first telecast.
Ahn often criticized players with straightforward remarks, but many fans loved it.
Kim, however, received a thumbs-down for being too nationalistic.

The three co-star on the broadcaster's weekly reality show "Dad, Where are you going?" and this obviously helped them feel comfortable covering the Tunisia match together.
SBS, sole broadcaster of the 2010 South Africa World Cup, is sticking with a reliable hand —(=) Cha Bum-kun, (=)a regular for Bayer Leverkusen in the 1970s and ‘80s.

Cha is the country's most popular football commentator and covered the 2002 and 2006 World Cup for MBC, which earned it top ratings. He moved to SBS in 2010.
State-run network KBS is often behind the other two channels.

In an effort to change this, it has hired former Tottenham Hotspurs defensive back Lee Young-pyo and three-time World Cup veteran Kim Nam-il.
The problem that KBS faces though is a possible strike over controversial CEO Gil Hwan-young.
Hundreds of reporters, anchors and producers have boycotted ←work calling for Gil's resignation. They accuse him of being a government proxy who has exerted undue influence on the newsroom to produce programs favorable to President Park Geun-hye.
Five senior sports producers have joined the boycott, saying KBS should not be broadcasting the World Cup unless viewers trust the company.
