Supertramp

    Supertramp는 1979년 후반기가 발표한 'Breakfast In America' 앨범으로 완전히

    정상에 오른 수퍼 그룹으로 군림하기 시작했습니다.

    이 앨범에 수록된 싱글인 'The Logical Song'이 빅 히트 되면서 국내에서도 그들의 존재를

    알리게 되었죠....

    'It`s Raining Again'는 1982년에 발표한 앨범  'Famous Last Words'에 수록된 곡입니다.

1969년 이태리의 한 젊은 거부가 학교에서 그룹을 결성하여 활동을 하고 있던 리처드 데이비스(Richard Davies)에게 그의 밴드를 창설하고 데뷔할 기회를 준다. 그의 전폭적인 지지를 받으며 리처드 데이비스(베이스), 리차드 파머(Richard Palmer 키보드, 보컬), 로저 호드슨(Roger Hodgson 베이스), 밥 밀러(Bob Miller 드럼)의 라인업을 갖춘 수퍼트램프(Supertramp)는 프로그레시브록 앨범 두 장을 발표한다.

그러나 이 앨범은 별다른 반응을 얻지 못했고 자신들의 기획자(이태리 거부)와 결별한 이들은 팬도 없고 재정적으로도 막막한 상황에서 그들의 음악을 재단장하기 시작한다. 그전까지의 지루하고 장황한 프로그레시브록을 지양하고 팝성향이 강한 프로그레시브록으로의 전향을 꾀하였고, 그 결과 그들은 세 번째 앨범 [Crime of Century]로 괄목할 만한 성과를 거둔다. 이때부터 수퍼트램프의 최고 명반으로 꼽히는 [Breakfast in America]를 비롯한 여러 앨범들이 쏟아져 나왔다. [Breakfast in America]는 미국내에서만 4백만장 이상 판매됐으며 여기 수록돼 있던 'Goodbye Strange', 'Logical Song', 'Take The Long Way Home' 등과 같은 싱글들이 크게 히트했다.

이들의 성공은 당시로서는 매우 인상적이었던 멜로디와 가사에서 비롯되었다고 할 수 있다. [Breakfast in America] 이후 그들은 좀 더 R&B적인 스타일로의 변화를 꾀하였고, 이러한 전향은 파리에서의 라이브 공연을 녹음한 더블앨범 [Famous Last Words](82)에 의해 큰 결실을 거둔다. 이 앨범에서 'It's Raining Again'이 크게 히트했다.

83년에는 베이시스트 로저 호드슨(Roger Hodgson)이 솔로로 전향해 그의 유일한 히트 싱글 'Had A Dream (Sleeping with The Enemy)'가 수록돼 있는 [In The Eye of The Storm](84)을 발표하지만 큰 반응을 얻지는 못했고 2년 후에 다시 밴드로 돌아온다.

85년에 밴드는 [Brother Where You Bound]를 발표해 'Cannonball'을 히트시킨다. 그러나 이 곡은 그들이 마지막으로 차트에 이름을 올린 싱글이 되었다. 6개월간의 미국순회공연을 치른 후 베스트 앨범 성격이 짙은 [The Autobiography of Supertramp] 등을 발표하기도 하지만 더 이상의 괄목할 만한 성과는 거두지 못했다.
