티키타카(스페인어: Fútbol Tiqui-Taca)는 스페인어로 탁구공이 왔다갔다 한다는 뜻이다. 축구에서는 짧은 패스로 경기를 풀어나가는 전술을 말한다. 스페인 라리가의 축구팀 FC 바르셀로나가 티키타카를 애용하는 것으로 유명하다.

상대팀에 비해 일방적으로 높은 볼점유율을 바탕으로 하여 드리블을 최소화한 채 골키퍼 이외의 10명의 선수들이 각자 패스를 받을 위치를 잡고 끊임없이 많은 패스로 경기를 풀어나가는 방식이다. 스페인 축구 국가대표팀이 이 티키타카 전술로 2010년 FIFA 월드컵에서 통산 1번째 우승을 차지했다. 티키타카가 유행하자 이에 대한 방어법으로 롱볼, 압박축구를 구사하는 팀이 등장하기도 했다.

연속된 여러 개의 삼각형 대형을 유지하는 가운데 좁은 공간에서의 짧은 패스와 빠른 움직임, 강한 압박으로 상대팀을 교란하는 축구전술을 뜻하는 말. 1900년대 초중반에 독일, 네덜란드 대표팀에서 주로 사용했던 전술에 기반을 두었으며, 1980~90년대 바르셀로나 감독이었던 요한 크루이프에 의해 도입되어 이후 스페인 축구의 특징으로 자리잡았다.

'티키타카'라는 이름으로 불린 것은 2006년 월드컵 중계방송에서 빠르게 주고받는 패스 스타일을 가리킨 데에서 유래했는데, '티키타카'는 원래 줄에 달린 두 개의 작은 공을 빠르게 부딪치게 하는 장난감의 스페인 상표명이었다. 근래에는 대화의 합이 잘 맞아 말로 주고받는 소통이 원활할 때 '티키타카가 잘 맞는다'라고 표현하기도 한다.

Tiki-taka

Tiki-taka or Tiqui-taca ([ˈtikiˈtaka]) is a style of play in Spain's football, characterised by short passing and movement, working the ball through various channels, and maintaining possession. The style is primarily associated with the Spain national team since 2006 by the managers Luis Aragonés and Vicente del Bosque. Tiki-taka methods were eventually embraced by the La Liga club Barcelona from 2009, especially during the era of manager Pep Guardiola; however, Guardiola distanced himself and the club from the style: "I loathe all that passing for the sake of it", stating, "Barça didn't do tiki-taka!", adding, "You have to pass the ball with a clear intention, with the aim of making it into the opposition's goal." Its development and influence goes back to Johan Cruyff's tenure as manager in the early 1990s all the way to the present. The first goal using this system is considered to be the Sergio Ramos goal in the qualifying match for UEFA Euro 2008, played in Aarhus (Denmark) on October 13, 2007. The play involved 9 players making 28 passes with 65 touches over 75 seconds. Spain went on to win the competition.

Predecessors

Earlier tactics that, like tiki-taka, rose to success in their times due to an unprecedented perfection in passing and movement without the ball include the Schalker Kreisel ("Schalke spinning top"), which won FC Schalke 04 six German championships between 1934 and 1942, and the Total Football used by Ajax Amsterdam and the Dutch national team during the 1970s.

Manager Angelo Niculescu adopted a style that is also considered a precursor of tiki-taka (the Romanian term was "temporizare", which translates to "delaying"). The team would try to keep possession of the ball for as long as possible, using repeated and short passes until a breach in the opposition defense was found. Using this tactic, he transformed the Romanian national team and managed to qualify them to the Mexico 1970 World Cup after a 32 year absence.

Etymology

The late Spanish broadcaster Andrés Montes is generally credited with coining and popularizing the phrase tiki-taka during his television commentary on LaSexta for the 2006 World Cup, although the term was already in colloquial use in Spain's football[18] and may have originated as a critical or derogatory term by then Athletic Bilbao coach Javier Clemente. In his live commentary of the Spain versus Tunisia match, Montes used the phrase to describe Spain's precise, elegant passing style: "Estamos tocando tiki-taka tiki-taka" ("we are playing tiki-taka tiki-taka").
