Lenticular clouds, technically known as altocumulus standing lenticularis, are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, normally aligned at right-angles to the wind direction. 

 (서있는 렌즈구름이라고 전문적으로 알려진 이 렌즈 구름들은 주로 바람부는 방향과 직각으로 있을때 고지대에서 이루어 진후, 렌즈 모양으로 남아 있는 구름이다.)

 

These clouds are formed by so-called 'mountain waves' of air created by strong winds forced over high mountains. Then they hang over the mountains like alien 'motherships'... Mount Rainier in Washington produces some of the most spectacular lenticulars. (이 구름들은 높은 산들위에서 심한 바람에 불려서 생기는 소위 "산위의 파도"에 의해서 형성 된다. 그런후  우주에서 날라온 이방인의  "모함(母艦)" 같이 산위에 정주한다. 와싱톤州에 있는 레이니어 산은 아주 볼만한 렌즈구름들을 만들어 낸다.)

They have been mistaken for UFOs (or 'visual cover' for UFOs) because these clouds have a characteristic lens appearance and smooth saucer-like shape. (이 구름들은 렌즈같이 보이고 미끈한 접시같이 보이기에 미확인 비행 물체{비행접시}로 착오 되어 왔다.)

Wave Clouds (파도 구름)

 

Wave clouds are formed when there are two parallel layers of air that are usually moving at different speeds and in opposite directions. The upper layer of air usually moves faster than the lower layer because there is less friction. Below is the famous photo of such special clouds over Mount Shasta, titled 'Catch the wave' (파도구름은 주로 두 상반되는 층의 구름들이 각자 반대쪽으로 다른 속도로 움직일때 생긴다. 윗층의 공기는 대개 윗층에는 마찰이 없기 때문에 아래층 보다 더 빨리 움직인다.  아래에 있는 사진은 그런 종류의 구름들을 캘리포녀州에 있는 샤스타 산 에서 찍은 것인 데 "파도 잡기" 라고 칭호 되고 있다.)

 

The Witch's Brew of Bizarre Clouds (귀괴한 구름들로 가득 찬 마녀의 비약(秘藥).

 

In the following photos (which are probably the weirdest of all weather phenomena pictures), taken from the top of local TV broadcasting tower (source:  KSNT) both the lenticular and mammatus clouds combine in one crazy rippled texture, hanging all over the city. (기후가 만들어낸 사진중에서 아마도 가장 불가사이한 구름인 다음의 구름들은 텔레비죤 방송탑 꼭데기에서 찍은 것으로 렌즈 구름들과 맘마투스 구름들이 도시위에서 미친듯한 잔 물결의 짜임새를 엮어 놓고 있다)
