1. Introduction

The Book of Isaiah is so rich in prophecies about the Messiah that it is often called the “Gospel of the Old Testament.” When Isaiah speaks of the Messiah’s identity, he testifies that He is the one true God, the Alpha and the Omega, and the only Savior. He also prophesies that God will come as a baby and a Son, as a descendant of David and a righteous Branch, as the Suffering Servant, as a Shepherd, as the Cornerstone and the Rock, and as the returning Lord and Judge. The Messiah testified to by Isaiah is not merely a religious leader or a moral teacher. He is God Himself, the Creator of humanity, and the Savior who will come to rescue humanity from the power of sin, death, and the devil.

Among Isaiah’s prophecies, there is one declaration that deserves special attention. It is the self-declaration of the LORD: “There is no Savior besides Me.” In the Old Testament, the LORD declared Himself to be the only Savior, while the New Testament proclaims Jesus as the only Savior. Therefore, the Bible does not speak of two Saviors. The LORD and Jesus are not two separate Saviors; rather, it is the one and only God who came as the Son to save us. This is the pivotal point where Isaiah’s Christology converges with the New Testament gospel.

Isaiah 43:11 I—yes, I am the Lord; apart from me there is no Savior.

However, this raises a question: Why did the almighty God not simply save humanity with a single word, but instead choose to come as a baby and as the Son? Why did the Creator descend to the place of His creation and take on flesh and blood? Why did He have to die, shedding His blood on the cross? The answer to this question is found in Isaiah chapters 53, 42, and 61. Isaiah 53 speaks of the Messiah coming as the Suffering Servant to bear our sins, while Isaiah 42 and 61 prophesy that He will come to set free those who are oppressed and imprisoned by the devil.

Isaiah 61 is particularly linked to Jesus’ first sermon during His public ministry. Jesus found this passage in the synagogue at Nazareth, read it aloud, and declared, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

This was a proclamation that Jesus Himself was the Anointed One—the Messiah—foretold by Isaiah, and that His ministry was the fulfillment of the Jubilee. Therefore, the Gospel is not merely the message of the forgiveness of sins. The Gospel is the message of the Jubilee, in which freedom is proclaimed to the captives, the imprisoned are set free, the oppressed are liberated, and people return to their lost inheritance.

Luke 4:18–19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Therefore, in this session, we will examine why the Messiah prophesied by Isaiah came as the one and only Savior and the fulfiller of the Jubilee, and how He sets us free from sin, death, and the power of the devil.

2. Why did Isaiah declare the Messiah to be the only Savior?

The God whom Isaiah proclaimed is not the strongest among many gods. Isaiah’s God is the one and only God. He is the First and the Last, and there is no other god besides Him. Isaiah 44:6 clearly states this fact. The LORD is the King of Israel, the Savior of Israel, and the LORD of Hosts. He is the First and the Last, and there is no other god besides Him.

Isaiah 44:6 Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, the Savior of Israel, the LORD of Hosts: “I am the First, and I am the Last; besides Me there is no other god.”

Therefore, the Lord’s statement that “there is no savior besides Me” is not merely a declaration of religious exclusivity. It is an ontological declaration. Only the Creator can be the Savior. For only the One who created us knows us, only the One who designed us can restore us, and only the One who called us to life can rescue us from death.

Humans can comfort one another, but they cannot completely liberate humanity from the power of sin, death, and the devil. A created being cannot transport another created being into eternal life.

The New Testament applies this very declaration from Isaiah to Jesus. The Gospel of Luke states that a Savior has been born in the town of David (Luke 2:10–11). Here, “Savior” is the Greek word “Sōter,” meaning “Saviour.” The Book of Acts proclaims that no other name has been given under heaven by which we must be saved. The Gospel of John states that Jesus Himself is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). This does not mean that Jesus is yet another Savior distinct from Jehovah. It means that the one and only God came among us in the name of Jesus, in the role of the Son.

Luke 2:10–11 The angel said, “Do not be afraid. Behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”

Acts 4:12 “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

The statement that Jesus alone is the Savior may seem dogmatic at first. There are good people in the world, good teachings, and many religions. However, the salvation spoken of in the Bible is not merely ethical improvement or religious comfort. The salvation spoken of in the Bible is being set free from the debt of sin, escaping the power of death, and being liberated from slavery to the devil.

Only God the Creator can do this. Yet that very God came as Jesus. Therefore, Jesus is the one and only Savior.

This is precisely why Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would be the one and only Savior. God does not share His glory with anyone else. Salvation cannot be entrusted to idols or human heroes. Salvation is the work of the LORD alone, and in the New Testament, that LORD is Jesus Christ, who came as the Son. Therefore, believers must not view Jesus merely as a great teacher. They must believe in Him as the one and only Savior. Only then can they truly experience the power of the gospel that He has accomplished.

3. Why Did the One True God Have to Come as the Son?

God is almighty. He created the heavens and the earth by His word. If that is the case, couldn’t He have resolved the problems of sin, death, and the devil with a single word? This question is crucial to understanding the mystery of the Incarnation. God did not become human because He lacked power. He became human to fulfill both love and justice. Salvation is not merely an exercise of power; it is an act of love in which God Himself descends to humanity’s place, takes upon Himself our sins, and redeems us.

Isaiah 9 prophesies that a child will be born and a son will be given to us. Yet the name of this Son is astonishing. He is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).

This Son is not a created being. Nor is He a separate deity distinct from God. He is God Himself, who came as the Son. Therefore, Isaiah’s prophecy about the child does not merely refer to a descendant of the House of David. It is a prophecy of the Incarnation—God coming as the Son.

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Why did He have to come as the Son? First, it was because He had to take on flesh and blood like ours in order to die in our place. God is Spirit and cannot die. However, the wages of sin is death. Therefore, in order for God to bear death on our behalf, He had to take on flesh and blood. Hebrews states that since the children are of flesh and blood, He too shared in their nature by becoming part of their flesh and blood. And it testifies that through His death, He destroyed the one who holds the power of death—that is, the devil.

Hebrews 2:14-15 Since the children are flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity in the same way, so that through death he might destroy the one who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Second, God came as his Son to show us how much he loves us. If the Almighty had merely issued commands from afar, we might have known God’s power, but we would not have known God’s love. However, He humbled Himself, took on human flesh, suffered, and shed His blood to die. This is the deepest proof of how much the Creator loves His creation.

Third, God became human in order to legally destroy the devil. The devil held the power of sin and death, enslaving humanity.

Therefore, God came as a human and was put to death as a sinless person. By killing the sinless Jesus, the devil committed an act of lawlessness, and as a result, the power of death and Hades passed into the hands of Jesus. This is the wisdom of the cross. God did not save us by force or coercion. God overcame Satan through love, justice, and wisdom.

Therefore, the Incarnation is not God’s weakness. The Incarnation is God’s wisdom. Jesus, who came as the Son, is not a created being but God Himself, and Jesus, who died on the cross, is not a defeated one but the Victor who destroyed the devil. Believers must not view Jesus merely as a baby or as the Son. They must see that the almighty God dwells within that baby, and that God’s plan of salvation is contained within the cross of that Son.

4. From What Does the Messiah Save Us?

The salvation of the Messiah prophesied by Isaiah unfolds in two directions. First is redemption from sin. Second is liberation from the oppression of the devil. These two cannot be separated. Sin gives the devil an opening, and the devil binds people through sin. Therefore, the salvation accomplished by Jesus includes both the forgiveness of sins and liberation from the bondage of demons.

Isaiah 53 prophesies that the Messiah will suffer to bear our sins. He bears our griefs and carries our sorrows. He is pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. This is atonement. Jesus came to give His life as a ransom for many.

Isaiah 53:4 -6 Surely he took up our infirmities and bore our sorrows; yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray; each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid all our iniquities upon him.

Mark 10:45 For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

But the Messiah’s salvation does not stop here. Isaiah 42 prophesies that the Messiah will open the eyes of the blind, lead the captives out of prison, and bring those sitting in darkness out of their cells. Isaiah 61 states that He will proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners. This does not refer merely to political captives. In the light of the New Testament, this points to the liberation of those under Satan’s power, those oppressed by the devil, and those bound by demons.

Isaiah 42:6–7: “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand and keep you safe. I will make you a covenant for the people and a light for the nations, to open the eyes of the blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, and those who sit in darkness from the prison.”

The Apostle Peter summarizes Jesus’ ministry as follows: God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38). This is the New Testament fulfillment of Isaiah 61. Jesus’ salvation is the salvation that heals those oppressed by the devil. Therefore, even while believing in Jesus, we must not accept demonic oppression, curses, sickness, spiritual bondage, poverty, and hindrances as inevitable. The Lord came to set us free from these things.

Acts 10:38 God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and he went about doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

The Apostle John also links Jesus’ coming to the works of the devil. He says that the Son of God appeared to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). This is the core of the gospel. Jesus is not only the Savior who forgives sins but also the Savior who destroys the works of the devil. Therefore, believers must receive forgiveness of sins through the blood of the cross, resist evil spirits by the authority of Jesus’ name, and be set free from oppression by the power of the Holy Spirit.

1 John 3:8 Whoever commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The Son of God appeared to destroy the works of the devil.

Salvation is not a religious certificate required to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Salvation is being set free from the debt of sin, being set free from the fear of death, and being delivered from the devil’s grasp. The Messiah prophesied by Isaiah came precisely to bring about this salvation.

5. Why is Isaiah 61 the fulfillment of the Jubilee?

Isaiah 61 presents the essence of the Messiah’s ministry in the most concise way. It states, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor” (Isaiah 61:1–2). Here, the “Anointed One” is the Messiah. Both the Hebrew “Mashiach” and the Greek “Christos” mean “the Anointed One.” Jesus is the Messiah, anointed by the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn—

At the heart of this passage are “freedom” and “release.” In Luke 4, Jesus reads this passage and declares that it applies to Him (Luke 4:20–21). The word “freedom” used in Luke is the Greek word “apesis.” This word encompasses the meanings of freedom, liberation, and forgiveness. The remission of the debt of sin is apesis, and the release of captives is also apesis. Therefore, Jesus’ gospel speaks of both the forgiveness of sins and liberation.

Luke 4:20–21 He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then Jesus said to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

The “Year of the Lord’s Favor” in Isaiah 61 is connected to the Jubilee Year in Leviticus 25. The Jubilee Year is a year of liberation proclaimed in the fiftieth year. Slaves are set free, debts are forgiven, and lost property returns to its original owners (Lev. 25:10). Therefore, the Jubilee is not merely a social institution. It is a foreshadowing of salvation, in which God brings His people back to His own inheritance.

Lev. 25:10 “You shall consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee for you; each of you shall return to your own property, and each of you shall return to your own family.”

Jesus came as the very fulfillment of this Jubilee. He came to forgive the debt of sin. He came to set us free from slavery to the devil. He came to restore the inheritance we had lost. The ultimate inheritance He will restore is the “New Jerusalem.” Therefore, the Jubilee is not merely an economic institution of the Old Testament. The Jubilee is the Gospel of the Messiah and the reality of salvation fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

Furthermore, Isaiah 61 also speaks of the Day of Vengeance. The Year of Grace and the Day of Vengeance are not contradictory. While the Lord proclaims a year of grace to His people, He proclaims a day of vengeance against the devil and the evil forces that bound and oppressed them. Therefore, the Jubilee includes not only freedom but also judgment. It is liberation for the captives, but judgment for those who held them captive. These are the two sides of the Messiah’s ministry.

6. What Do the Three Great Escapes in the Bible Reveal?

The history of salvation in the Bible can be summarized, in a word, as the “history of great escapes.” The first great escape was the Exodus of the Israelites, which took place around 1446 B.C. The Israelites lived in Egypt as slaves to Pharaoh. They were enslaved, oppressed, and deprived of their inheritance. At that time, God sent Moses to lead them out of Egypt. Their destination was the land of Canaan. The Exodus is the first great foreshadowing of salvation—the deliverance from the dominion of the world and the bondage of sin.

The second great exodus was the return of the people of Judah from the Babylonian exile in 538 B.C. The people of Judah were taken into captivity in Babylon because of their sin. However, about 200 years earlier, God had inspired Isaiah to prophesy even the name “Cyrus.” And when the time came, He moved the heart of Cyrus, king of Persia, so that the people of Judah could return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple (2 Chronicles 36:22–23; Ezra 1:1–4).

Remarkably, Isaiah calls Cyrus “my shepherd” (Isaiah 44:28) and refers to him as “the anointed one” (Isaiah 45:1). Although Cyrus was not a savior of souls, he was a type of the instrumental Messiah who brought God’s people out of Babylon.

Isaiah 44:28 Concerning Cyrus, he says, “He is my shepherd; he will carry out all my pleasure,” and concerning Jerusalem, “It will be rebuilt,” and concerning the temple, “Its foundation will be laid.”

Isaiah 45:1 Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus: “I will take hold of his right hand and subdue nations before him; I will loosen the belts of kings, and open doors before him, so that the gates will not be shut.”

The destination of this second great exodus was “Jerusalem.” It was a return from Babylon to Jerusalem. Isaiah strongly proclaims this exodus, saying, “Come out of Babylon” (Isaiah 48:20). Historically, this refers to the return from exile, but spiritually, it means that God’s people must come out of Babylon’s sin, idolatry, and spiritual mixture.

Isaiah 48:20 Come out of Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans; proclaim this with a voice of joy, make it known, and declare it to the ends of the earth: “The Lord has redeemed his servant Jacob.”

The third great escape is the great escape of all humanity from sin, death, and the devil through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the true Messiah, greater than Moses and greater than Cyrus. Moses led the people from Egypt to Canaan, and Cyrus enabled them to return from Babylon to Jerusalem. But Jesus leads us from Satan’s dominion to God, from darkness to light, from sin and death to life, and finally to the New Jerusalem.

Acts 26:18 “To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.”

Therefore, the great exodus described in the Bible grows ever deeper and is being fulfilled. The Exodus from Egypt was an escape from physical slavery, and the return from exile was an escape from historical Babylon.

However, the salvation through Jesus Christ is an escape from spiritual captivity. This is the final great exodus. The destination of this great exodus is neither simply Canaan nor earthly Jerusalem. The final destination is the “New Jerusalem.”

Rev. 21:2 Then I saw the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Believers must not remain in Babylon any longer. They must not regard their bondage to idols, sin, and the devil as normal. Jesus has already come, and the Jubilee has already been proclaimed. Therefore, believers must come out of Babylon, break free from Satan’s power, and press on toward the New Jerusalem.

7. How did Jesus fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy?

Isaiah also prophesied about the Messiah’s ministry in Galilee. He said that a great light would shine upon the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the Galilee of the Gentiles (Isaiah 9:1–2). The Gospel of Matthew views Jesus’ ministry in Galilee as the fulfillment of Isaiah 9. The people sitting in darkness saw a great light, and light shone upon the land of the shadow of death. That light is Jesus (Matthew 4:15–16).

Isaiah 9:1–2: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in the land of the shadow of death—upon them a light has shone.” In the past, the Lord had allowed the lands of Zebulun and Naphtali to be despised, but later He glorified the coastal road and Galilee of the Gentiles beyond the Jordan. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; light has shone upon those who lived in the land of the shadow of death.

Matt. 4:15–16 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light has dawned.”

Jesus’ public ministry was the actual fulfillment of Isaiah 61. He taught in the synagogues, preached the gospel of the kingdom, and healed every disease and every infirmity among the people (Matt. 4:23). Wherever Jesus went, demons fled, the sick were healed, and the brokenhearted were restored. This was not merely a spectacle of miracles. It was evidence that the Jubilee had truly begun.

Matthew 4:23 Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.

In Luke 4, Jesus heals a man possessed by an unclean spirit immediately after reading Isaiah 61. This is very significant. If Jesus proclaimed “liberty to the captives” and “release to the oppressed,” the reality of that liberation must be manifested in the departure of demons.

Therefore, the preaching of the gospel, blessings, and healing are inseparable. Jesus preached the gospel, cast out demons, and healed the sick. This is the threefold fulfillment of the Jubilee.

Luke 4:33 -36 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by an unclean spirit, who cried out loudly, “Ah, Jesus of Nazareth, what do we have to do with you? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” The spirit threw the man down in front of the crowd and came out of him, and the man was unharmed. They were all amazed and said to one another, , “What kind of teaching is this? He commands even the unclean spirits with authority and power, and they come out!”

Jesus healed those oppressed by demons. He gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, and enabled the lame to walk. These were not only physical healings but also signs of spiritual liberation. Behind sickness, curses, and oppression lie sin and the work of the devil. Therefore, Jesus’ healings were not merely medical recoveries but the presence of the Kingdom of God.

Today’s believers must also understand Jesus’ ministry correctly. Jesus did not come merely to send people to heaven after they die. Even now, He sets free those oppressed by the devil, forgives those bound by the debt of sin, and leads those sitting in darkness into the light. The gospel must not end as mere doctrine to be heard but must manifest as actual liberation.

8. How Should We Enjoy the Blessings of the Jubilee Today?

Since Jesus has already come, believers should enjoy the Jubilee that He has fulfilled. Yet many believers, even while claiming to believe in Jesus, continue to live under a heavy burden. They remain bound by sickness, spiritual stagnation, poverty, obstacles, fear, depression, addiction, anger, sexual immorality, and apathy. This is not because the Gospel is weak. It is because they do not truly understand what the Gospel is, nor do they fully experience what Jesus has saved us from.

To experience the Jubilee, first, we must believe in Jesus as our only Savior. There is no other name besides Jesus that can deliver us from sin, death, and the devil. There are many good people and many good teachings, but Jesus is the only One who can transfer us from Satan’s power to God. Therefore, believers must not regard Jesus merely as a source of religious comfort, but must believe in Him as the one and only Savior.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Second, we must experience the forgiveness of sins. Jesus came to cancel the debt of our sins. The debt of sin is something humans cannot repay on their own. Therefore, we must rely on the blood of Jesus. Furthermore, through confession, we must repent so that the sins recorded in the book of deeds may be erased and the evil spirits that entered through sin may depart. Faith without repentance does not allow us to truly experience the Jubilee.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Third, we must break free from the bondage of the devil. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Therefore, believers must not accept living under the oppression of demons as a matter of course. We must resist them in the name of Jesus, remove the strongholds of evil spirits through repentance, and cast them out by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Jubilee is not merely freedom proclaimed in words, but freedom in which actual bonds are broken.

Fourth, we must live with our sights set on the New Jerusalem. The Jubilee is the year when each person returns to their inheritance. The ultimate inheritance in the New Testament is the New Jerusalem. Therefore, believers must not limit themselves to solving only their present problems. Those who have been set free from the bondage of sin and the devil must now prepare themselves to enter the New Jerusalem. They must set their sights on what is inside the city, not outside (Rev. 18:4). That is the ultimate destination of God’s economy.

Rev. 18:4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say, “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues.”

The gospel we are to enjoy today is clear. Jesus has already fulfilled the Jubilee. The debt of sin can be forgiven, the oppression of the devil can be broken, and the lost inheritance can be restored. Therefore, believers must no longer accept the bondage of the devil as their destiny. The gospel is real power, and Jesus is still the Savior today.

9. Conclusion

In this session, we examined how the Messiah prophesied by Isaiah came as the one and only Savior and the fulfiller of the Jubilee. Isaiah proclaimed that the LORD alone is the Savior, and the New Testament testifies that Jesus alone is the Savior. This does not mean there are two Saviors, but rather that the one and only God came as the Son to save us. Therefore, truly knowing Jesus must be the starting point of salvation.

We also examined why God came as the Son. Although God is almighty, He did not save us with a single word alone. To fulfill love and justice, He took on flesh and blood, bore our sins on the cross, and through His death, destroyed the devil who held the power of death. Therefore, believers must not view the cross merely as a symbol of suffering. The cross must be seen as the place of atonement, the place where the devil was defeated, and the place where the door to the Jubilee was opened.

We have also examined the fact that Isaiah 61 speaks of the fulfillment of the Jubilee. Jesus proclaimed freedom to the captives, release to the prisoners, and liberation to the oppressed. This means that the Jubilee described in Leviticus 25 was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Therefore, believers must not merely speak of the forgiveness of sins without also experiencing liberation from the bondage of the devil. They must be set free from the debt of sin, escape the oppression of demons, and live a life that returns to their lost inheritance.

We have also examined the three great exoduses described in the Bible. The first is the Exodus from Egypt to Canaan; the second is the return of the exiles from Babylon to Jerusalem; and the third is the final great exodus—the journey through Jesus Christ from sin, death, and the devil’s dominion to the New Jerusalem.

Believers must not remain in Babylon any longer. Nor should they regard a life bound by the powers of darkness as normal. Since Jesus has already come, they must now live as those who have been set free.

Therefore, believers today must believe in Jesus as their only Savior, receive forgiveness of sins and purification through repentance, and resist evil spirits in the name of Jesus. Furthermore, they must recognize that the destination of salvation is the New Jerusalem and prepare themselves to enter that city. The Jubilee that Jesus fulfilled must not remain merely a doctrine. It must manifest itself in our lives as freedom, liberation, and restoration. May we thus become blessed believers who break free from the bondage of sin, death, and the devil, and boldly press on toward the New Jerusalem.

[Sermon Highlights]

This sermon offers a theological interpretation of the identity of the Messiah prophesied by Isaiah in the Old Testament and the blessings of the spiritual Jubilee He will bring. Pastor Jeong Bo-bae emphasizes that Jesus Christ is not a separate being from Jehovah God, but is the one true God who came in the flesh to directly rescue humanity from the oppression of sin and the devil. In particular, he demonstrates God’s omnipotence through the prophecy that specifically named King Cyrus 200 years prior, and defines the Gospel proclaimed by Jesus as an event that grants freedom and liberation to the captives, thereby restoring the lost inheritance of the Kingdom of Heaven. Ultimately, the core message is that only the Creator who made us is the sole Savior capable of resolving humanity’s fundamental, broken condition, and that believers must enjoy the benefits of this complete salvation through repentance and faith.

[Sermon Summary]

The Messiah prophesied by Isaiah is the one and only Savior—the Son of the one true God—and the fulfiller of the Jubilee who came to liberate humanity from sin, death, and the power of the devil. As described in Isaiah 53, He died as a sacrifice to bear our sins, and as described in Isaiah 42 and 61, He came anointed by the Holy Spirit to liberate those oppressed, captive, and imprisoned by the devil. If the Exodus was an escape from Egypt to Canaan, and the return from captivity was an escape from Babylon to Jerusalem, then the salvation brought by Jesus Christ is the ultimate great escape—leading us from Satan’s dominion to God, from darkness to light, and finally to the New Jerusalem. Therefore, believers must trust in the gospel of the Jubilee that Jesus has already fulfilled, break free from the bondage of sin, death, and the devil, and truly enjoy that freedom.
