3. 선생님의 자연에 대한 호기심 - 2

우리가 양봉도 많이 했지만, 아카시아꿀이 참 맛있습니다. 이 아카시아꽃에 벌이 앉아 가지고는 머리를 처박고 들이먹을 때는 앞뒷발로 버티고 꽁무니는 아래에다 받치고 들이 빨아대는 겁니다.

그럴 때 핀 셋으로 꽁무니를 잡아당기면 꽁무니가 떨어지더라도 안 놓습니다. 몸뚱이가 떨어지도록 당기는 녀석도 지독하지만, 그 맛을 알고 못 놓는 놈이 더 지독하다는 것입니다. 그걸 보고 ‘이거 나도 배웠다. 나도 요렇게 해야 되겠다.’ 했습니다.

개구리라는 개구리, 새라는 새는 내가 안 잡아 본 게 없습니다. 내가 처음 보는 새가 있으면 안 잡으면 안 됩니다. 모르면 잠을 못 잡니다. 새들이 물 먹는 곳이 있습니다.

새가 물 먹는 곳을 알아서 거기에 나뭇가지만 딱 하나 놓으면 틀림없이, 백발백중 잡습니다. 새는 땅에 앉는 것보다도, 돌멩이에 앉는 것보다도 나뭇가지에 잘 앉습니다. 그걸 알아서 물 위에다 가지를 하나 따서 내려앉을 곳에 놓으면 틀림없이 앉는 겁니다. 그것은 틀림없이 잡는 겁니다.

말총으로 올무를 하나 만들어 놓으면 세 번만 왔다갔다하면 딱 모가지가 걸립니다. 내가 이런 말을 왜 하느냐? 여러분이 청춘시절에 할 것 다하고, 가 꿀 것 다 가꾸고, 놀 것 다 놀고, 재미있는 것 다 보고 그래서는 안 된다는 것입니다. 그런 놀음 하다가는 떨어지기 일쑤고 못 가기가 일쑤라는 말입니다. (51-270, 136-132, 186-303)

3. 先生の自然に対する好奇心 - 2

私の家では養蜂もたくさんやっていました。本当にこの蜂蜜、アカシアの蜂蜜はおいしいです。蜂は、このアカシアの花にとまってその味に触れたとたん…。うちでは蜂を本当にたくさん飼っていました。

この蜂のやつが頭を突っ込んで蜜を吸うときには、前後の足をこうしてふんばって、尻尾は下に支えおいて吸いまくるのです。そのときにピンセットで尻尾をつかんで引っ張ると、尻尾が切れても放さないのです。

すごい執念でしょう？　尻尾が切れるほど引っ張る小僧もひどいですが、味をしめて放そうとしない蜂はもっとしたたかです。それを見て「うわっ！　こりゃ教えられたな。僕もこのくらいになろう」と思いました。（笑い）

カエルというカエル、鳥という鳥、私が捕まえてみなかったものはありません。初めて見る鳥がいると、もう捕まえなければじっとしていられません。知るまでは夜も寝ていられません。あるときなどは、渡り鳥が来て、さっと山の中に消えて…。

そのときも鳥の巣という巣は…。それはまったく面白いのです。二羽の鳥がつがいになって、小枝をくわえてはせっせと巣を作って…。（お笑いになる）

それから、その鳥たちが水を飲む所があります。水を飲む所があるのです。そこで、どこで水を飲むのかを調べて、そこに枝を一つ置いておきさえすれば確実に、百発百中で捕まえることができます。（お笑いになる）

鳥は地面に下りるのよりも、石の上に下りるのよりも、専門は何かというと、木に留まることです。その習性を利用して、水の上に枝を一つ渡しておけば間違いなく留まるのです。だから確実に仕留めます。

馬の毛でしっかり一つ作っておいて、三回だけ行ったり来たりすれば、しっかりと首が引っかかるのです。（笑い）ああ、こいつ、これを見ればですね、これは皆全部…。

私がこんなことをなぜ言うかというと、皆さんが青春時代にすることは全部して、育てるものは全部育て、遊ぶものは全部遊んで、面白いものは全部見て、そのようにしてはだめだというのです。だめなのです。そんな遊びをしていると落ちやすく、行くことができないのが常だというのですね。分かりますか？　（五一・二七〇、一三六・一三二、一八六・三〇三）

Also at my home there were many honey bees. Honey, especially the honey from acacia trees, is really very delicious. The bees land on the acacia flowers and gather the nectar. Near my house there were many bees.

When the bees put their heads inside the flower and suck the nectar, they stand firmly like this. With their tails they support themselves and suck the nectar. Once I tried to grasp the tail of one of the bees with a pair of tweezers, but even so the bee would not let go of the flower.

Even if the bee's tail is cut off it, it has such a deep attachment that it does not let go of the flower, Of course a boy who pulls a bee's tail to the extent that the tail comes off is a terrible boy, but a bee who never gives up sucking the nectar is also very tough, so I thought, "Wow, I learned a lesson. I will become like this."

Also in those days there was no frog, nor bird which I did not try to catch. When I saw a bird for the first time I could not help wanting to catch it. I couldn't sleep until I caught it.

One day when a migrating bird came and disappeared into the mountains I looked for it all day. I also looked for bird nests. It was very interesting. I saw two pairs of birds working very hard making their nests with branches and twigs.

I found a place where the birds drank water. Then by placing a branch over it I was able to catch birds easily. I never missed because birds tend to perch on a branch or tree rather than stand on the ground or on a stone.

So by making use of that habit I was able to catch the birds by putting a branch where they drank water. I was always successful at catching birds. I made a trap using horse hair so that birds the birds were caught by their necks. It was very interesting.

The reason that I am saying all these things is that it isn't at all good if in your young days you do everything that you want, or play all you want or see anything you think is interesting. It's no good. If you spend time just playing around, you are likely to fall, and you are not likely to reach your goal. Do you understand? (51-270,136-132,186-303).
