I: Hey, Maria, why do you look so sad? Did something happen at school?
M: No, it's just that this is my first time being away from home and on my own. I guess I'm just homesick.
I: I understand. I was a foreign exchange student last year in Spain. It was really hard at first.
M: How did you deal with in?
I: I took advantage of all the opportunities I had. There were a lot of clubs and organizations to join.
M: Thanks! I'll start looking for ways to meet people

M: I did! Since I'm majoring in environmental science, I joined a club that does a lot of river cleanups and tree planting.
I: It sounds like you found some like-minded people.
M: Yeah, and they're a lot of fun to hang out with. It isn't all about parties and stuff like that.
I: That's great! I think you're going to make the most of your semester in this country.
M: That's the plant.

M: Yeah, I just didn't feel like socializing tonight, I needed to take a break from the locals.

M: Thanks for the advice, Ian. I feel like you're one of the few people I can really open up to around here.
I: I know what it's like to feel like you don't have anyone in your corner
M: It's good to know you're here if I need you.

M: It was a stroke of luck that I had you has my first friend here.
I: Let's keep in touch. I hear Budapest is beautiful in the springtime.
M: Definitely! And I'm an excellent tour guide.
