[틈틈이 영어공부] by any chance

- 영한 : 혹시, 혹시나, 혹시라도, 혹여, 만에 하나, 행여

- 영영 : used especially in questions, to ask whether something is true, possible, etc

- 동일/유사 : accidentally, maybe, (just) in case, possibly

- 예문 : 

Are you in love with him, by any chance?
혹시라도 너 그를 사랑하는 거니?

I'm not about to date him by any chance.
난 절대로 그 사람 만날 생각이 없어.

What should we do if he doesn't show up, by any chance?
만에 하나 그가 나타나지 않으면 어떡하지?

Dave: Well you know you can stay with us if you need to.
데이브: 있잖아 필요하면 우리 집에 있어도 돼.

Marty: Thanks for the offer. I might take you up on it.
마티: 그렇게 말해주니 고마워. 네 집에 가게 될 지도 모르겠다.

Dave: Give me a call before you come.
데이브: 오게 되면 미리 전화 줘.

Marty: I'll do that if I need to.
마티: 가게 되면 미리 전화할게.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶spend the night: (자신의 집이 아닌 다른 곳에서) 밤을 보내다.
"We could spend the night at the hotel by the airport." 
(우린 오늘 밤 공항 근처 호텔에서 잘까 봐.)

▶get back to (a place): (어느 장소로) 돌아오다.
"We got back to the hotel at midnight." 
(우린 자정에 호텔로 돌아왔어.)

▶take (someone) up on it (or something): 제의나 초청을 받아들이다.
"I will take you up on that offer of lunch." 
(네가 점심 먹자고 한 거 하자.)
