Subject:  invitation of speakers 20th FPSO Forum in Gyeongju

Dear Mr. Tim Finnigan,

SHI

I have already asked Dr. Lee in SHI.

He said that SHIs speaker is not determined

but he confirm‎!ed they will give a presentation during the forum.

I think we will get the information from SHI Monday.

HHI

Originally we had plan to present two topics by HHI - Dr. Shin and myself.

I informed you the topic for myself. Its my mistake.

When I see your program list then I found Dr. Shin is missing.

Would you please insert his presentation in the program?

He will inform you his topic soon.

One thing more to comment on the time frame is

7:30 start seems to be too early morning to the forum visitors

I think we can be flexible on the tour time which I can control

I think wed better start at 8;30.

Film presentation & shipyard tour time total can be 40 minutes.

Dear Mr. Yoon

Can you help me confirm‎! whether or not the other ship yards will have a guest speaker at the Forum.  I have left e-mail messages for both Hee-Sung Lee of SHI and Joo-Ho Heo of DSME inviting them or someone from their yard to give a presentation at the Forum.  Neither one of them have replied back.  I’ve also tried calling their office with the numbers you provided me below, but received no answer and was not connected to an answering machine, therefore I was unable to leave a message.

I am on the verge of inviting other speakers to ensure that we have a full slate of speakers.  If they accept, that would mean that we would not have room for presentations by the other ship yards.  I am reluctant to do this, since at the last Forum it was implied that we needed to accommodate speakers from the other yards.  However, I am accountable to make sure we have a full and interesting technical forum, and I cannot wait much longer to get a response from these gentlemen.  Hence your help in getting some response from these ship yards would be greatly appreciated.

If there are other contacts within SHI or DSME that I should contact, please advise at your earliest convenience.

By the way, here is the draft agenda.  Please do not circulate this.  I have not invited others (contractors, client companies, class societies) yet as I have been waiting to hear back from SHI or DSME.

Also, could you please provide me with your company’s logo so that it may be properly represented on the agenda?

Best regards

Dr. Tim Finnigan,

The followings are my responses to your requests;

1.Korean Major Shipyards Contact Point :

   Today I called again to both companies and they confirm‎!ed the contact point as follows;

SHI    : Hee-Sung Lee/Senior Engineer

                 e-mail : hs.shi.lee@samsung.com

                 Tel.     : +82-55-630-5354

DSME : Joo-Ho Heo/Director of Ship & marine Structure R&D Team

                 e-mail : jhheo@dsme.co.kr

                 Tel.      : +82-55-680-2078

2. BV & ABS; They may think other issues but at least I informed them of the main topic of FPSO forum FPSO Yard Practices

So contact them first then you will know their idea. After that youd better worry about the time schedule.

3. HHIs speakers

   1) Length of opening address by Mr. SK Son will be very short about 5-10 minutes

   2) Title for the presentation are not decided yet. I will inform you later.

4. Tour Time can be adjusted. So youd better to arrange the speakers/presentation time schedule

then we can discuss its global schedule for the day.

Dear Dr. Yoon

Can you give me the contact information for the other Korean yards whom you asked to present at the Forum?  I will send them an official invitation, with a time frame of about 2 weeks to give a reply.  Which yards did you contact?

Regarding other potential speakers, we would like to focus on presentations that will not be commercial in nature, and that will focus on ship yard practices from either an Owner/Operator, EPCI contractor, or Shipyard perspective.

Do you know if the two speakers you mentioned from BV and ABS planned to speak on ship yard practices?  In any event, I will send them an inquiry to that effect.  However, due to the limited time slots available at the forum, I do not plan to commit to specific speakers until I am certain we have time slots available and their presentation will meet our requirements.

Of course there will be a space for the host speakers (HHI).  However, for planning purposes, I would like to know the following from HHI:

  • length of opening address by Mr. S. K. Son.  Typically the opening address by the host company is on the order of 15 minutes.  All other presentations are a total of 30 minutes, including questions and answers.  So I ask the speakers to prepare a 20 minute presentation to allow 10 min. for Q&A.
  • title for your presentation, and Dr. Shin's presentation.  I presume they are both on the topic of Shipyard practices.

Based upon the time schedule you provided, showing the Forum running from 0800 to 1300, we have 5 additional time slots available for speakers.  However, 0800 is a fairly early start compared to past forums.  The 0800 start time means that the registration desk must be open by 7:30 am or possibly earlier.  If you intended the registration desk to open at 0800, then we would start 1/2 hour later and we would have 4 additional time slots beyond the 2 by HHI and the opening address.

I would hope to have speakers from the other ship builders in Korea (e.g., Samsung and Daewoo) to get a balanced perspective of practices and issues.  That would leave 2 more speaker slots.  In addition to BV and ABS noted below, as well as Total, I have had inquiries myself from others.  There will not be enough time slots to go around, which is why I don't want to commit to BV and ABS until I've heard back directly from Samsung and Daewoo.

Dear Dr. Tim Finnigan,

Sorry to late reply.

When I came back to Korea, I asked Korean Yards to present their practices unofficially,

but I have no answer from them.

I was just questioned only by BV for the speaker till now.

(I am not sure who he was in BV, but please contact with Mr. Ulrik Dan Frorup _ Head of Offshore in BV

His e-mail : ulrik.frorup@bureauveritas.com)

So I think youd better invite them on the name of FPSO Research Forum Chairman.

For HHI, we have two speakers; one is Dr. Shin and the other is me.

In addition, my management Mr. S. K. Son (Executive Vice Present) would like to give an opening address.

This may be addressed at the forum or dinner time.

Today I got a call from ABS Busan office.

Dr. Ho Sung Lee showed a great interest to our forum.

(His e-mail address is hlee@eagle.org)

One of the oil major companies should be TOTAL

because they are very eagerly developing new built huge FPSOs

and they got a lot of lessons learned from construction and operation of FPSO.

The other may be ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, etc..

Dr. Yoon

We discussed some of the speakers when we met in Houston.  Can you please provide me with the contact information for the speakers you have arranged so I can extend a formal invitation on behalf of the Forum?  Also, I need to make sure we can accommodate all speakers, and consider inviting one or two client companies for a customer's perspective on ship yard practices.

Dear Dr. BOOM

Please be informed the followings with attachment updated for the coming FPSO JIP week November, 2007.

Should you have any comment, let us know it.

In addition, I have no suggestion yet.

I think that as a driving JIP organizer, youd better inviting the speakers for the FPSO research forum presentations

to the Korean yards, classification societies, oil major companies, etc..

Dear Dr.Henk van den BOOM

Dr. BOOM, how are you?

I hope everything ok with you and your family too.

My family and I are ok but I am still busy on doing a lot of on-going works.

Regarding the subject, I discussed with the hotel manager

I am happy to give you a very positive answer to your questions.

Concerning room rate, he accepted your proposal, but they need to make reservation in advance.

He will apply the same room rate for that period Nov. 9 to 19.

Further information :

1)      Arrangement : see the enclosed hotel layout and information

              - 3 conference rooms booked

              - Min. 70 guest rooms to be assigned for the JIP week

2)      Room rates :

3)      Room reservation procedure

First you need to check participant with period.

Second inform the hotel manager of the participant list with their period

I will discuss with the hotel manager in further detail.

As per the discussion with the hotel manager, currently foreigners can not directly reserve the hotel

using the hotel reservation system with the special price for the JIP week,

but they need to make reservation through the JIP organization representative.

I think you need to get the reservation list including all information thru JIP homepage.

Subject: 20th FPSO Forum in Gyeongju

Dear Ki Young,

Hope everything is OK with you and your family.

By the end of August I would like to post the FPSO JIP week program  on the website.

At that time we also need some more information of the Hyundai hotel at Gyeongju  such as

·         Arrangement & room rates

·         Room reservation procedure

·         Contact at Hyundai hotel

·         Travel directions

·         Day fee (for conference rooms, lunches & coffees)

Last time we had a link to the hotel website for bookings which worked quite good.

Concerning the room rate; some people may want to arrive early or stay longer in the same Hotel.

It would be good when the room rates apply from say November 9 to 19.

In September/ October we have to put together the  Agenda of the FPSO Forum which will have as theme FPSO Construction; Ship Yard Practice.

If you have already suggestions for presentation, please let us know.

Best regards,

Henk van den Boom
