굳윌 헌팅 (Good Will Hunting)은 천재적 재능을 지닌 한 청년의 이야기를 다루지만 그 초점은 천재성 그 자체에 맞춰지지 않는다. 인간이란 그의 재능과 능력이 어떻든 간에 자기 존재의 고유함을 드러내는 인격적 통합이 없을 경우 능력의 발휘는 물론이거니와 존재의 의미도 깨닫지 못한다는 사실을 경고하는 영화다. 이 영화의 내용처럼 작가 역시 인격적 통합의 중요성에 대해 강조하고 있고, 자기 내부의 변화가 최우선되야 함을 교육문제의 해결책으로 보고 있습니다. 이에 대해 Miss Song과 Mr. Kim은 전자는 동의하지만 후자는 일부분 부정적인 시각으로 비판하였다. 하지만 나는 두가지 견해 모두 작가와 생각을 일치한다. 능률위주의 현 시점의 교육이 자아성찰, 비판적 가치관, 삶에 대한 통합적 이해가 중시되는 교육으로 바뀌어야 됨은 자명하고 그러기 위해선 개개인의 의식변화가 무엇보다도 우선되어야 한다고 생각하기 때문이다. 우선 교육의 중점적 목적이 통합된 지성(至誠)적 인간을 육성하는 것이라는 의견에 동의한다. 앞에서 예로 든 '굳윌 헌팅'에서 괭보 교수가 천재 헌팅을 교육하는 장면은 참으로 인상적이고 많은 본보기를 제시 해 준다. 교수는 타인에 대한 신뢰를 상실하여 불안과 고통 속에서 방황하는 헌팅에게 단순한 지식 전달이 아닌 자신이 진정 원하는 것을 알고 행하는 자유를 가르쳐 주었다. 천재적으로 지능이 뛰어난 헌팅이 가장 기초가 되는 자기 자신을 바로 알지 못했다는 사실은 현 우리 교육이 양성하고 있는 학생들의 세태를 보여 주고 있다. 참된 인격으로서 성장하기 위해서는 구속력을 가진 인격적 만남과 관계를 맺어야 한다. 그리고 그 속에서야 비로소 인간 상호간의 신뢰를 배우고, 자신을 사랑하고 긍정하는 방법을 배울 수 있다. 다시 말해서 자기 존재에 대한 의미-자신에 대한 사랑과 신뢰에서 출발하여 이웃과 사회를 공감하고 이해하며 궁극적으로는 스스로 고유하게 존재하고 살아가는 의미를 깨닫는 일-가 결여된 인간은 자기가 지닌 능력과 하는 일의 중요성을 깨닫지 못한다. 자기 자신의 이해는 재능과 능력이 발휘되는 발판이 되며 평화와 사랑의 원동력이기 때문이다. 이러한 방법으로 현 교육을 개선하기 위해서는 개인의 의식 변화가 필수적이다. 이 의견에 대해 두 급우들은 반대 의견을 내놓았지만 나는 그들의 의견에 어느 정도 수긍하는 부분이 있음에도 불구하고 반대하는 입장이다.
물론 체계 속에서 인간이 살아가기에 체계와 개인을 분리시켜 놓고 생각할 수 없다는 주장에 공감을 한다. 그러나 이러한 교육책 문제에 있어서는 개개인의 의식변화가 체제의 변화에 우선되어야하는 필수 요건이라고 생각한다. 만약 체제가 바뀐다면 훨씬 수월하게 교육환경이 개선 될 수 있을 것이지만, 근본적인 의식 개혁이 이루어지지 않은 상태에서의 체제 변화란 그 시효가 길지 않을 것이기 때문이다.  그리고 개인이 바뀐다면 지금 당장 체제가 무엇이던지 간에 조만간 개선될 것은 자명하기 때문이다. 또한 우리는 교육 체제 내에서 공부하는 것 외에 부모님 선생님 친구들과 인간관계속에서 더 많은 것을 배우고 느낀다. 따라서 그들의 가치관과 생각이 바뀌는 것은 교육 개선에 큰 역할을 할 것이다.  인간은 사회 문화적 요구에 기계적으로 부응하거나 기술적 치료에 자동으로 반응하는 존재가 아니다.  인간이 무엇을 배우고 실천하기 위해서는 존재의 의미를 깨닫고 가치를 추구하려는 자유로운 의욕이 필요하다. 이를 위해서 교육이 자유로운 개성으로 성장하고 도약할 수 있도록 돕고 자기 자신을 알아 가는 길을 터 줄 때, 그리고 그러한 교육의 참된 기능을 개인이 스스로 인식 할 때, 우리는 참된 인격자로 성장할 수 있다. 따라서 이것이 바로 교육의 진정한 모습일것이다.

The movie "Good Willing Hunting" portrays the story of a genius young man, but the story itself does not entirely devote its cinematic theme to its prodigy. The movie may be interpreted as a satire that no matter how prodigious we might be or carry an exceptional quality than those around us, if we don't have such a "unity" that allows us to be a human who knows what it means to be a human being, not only would we not be able to take advantage of such merits, but we also would not understand why we have to exist at all.
The writers of this film emphasize the importance of "the unity" that brings one's honour, respect and personality to an accord and also view the changes in one's inner self as the answers to all the problems in the present education. Although Miss Song and Mr. Kim share different views about this all -the former agrees and the latter has his voice against it, I subscribe to both points of views for I believe that our present education system must go through a transit from its present state--, a virtual factory that breeds what they believe to be an intellectual to a new method of teaching and learning in which self-reflection, know-how to self-criticism and better understanding of one's life gets the highest priority and that we all need to change the way we view life so that we can see it all changed.
First of all, I agree with the opinion that the main goal of education is to bring up persons of wholeheartedness. As mentioned earlier, the scenes of Professor Lambeau, who toils to get the best of the newfound genius, Will Hunting, in the movie "Good Will Hunting" offer many instances and may mark some good impressions on the audience. Professor Lambeau teaches Hunting, who has lost all confidence in others and lives in the world of anxiety and pains, not just knowledge, but helps him through his ordeals so that he could realize what he wants to do in life and also what it means to be free. The fact that someone intelligent and gifted as Hunting is oblivious of himself is a reflection of our own students who have been bred by the present education system. To grow up a person who knows the meaning of a true human heart, one needs to build a bond that brings us closer together from the first encounter to continuing relationships in which we are able to learn to trust one and another and to be positive about our life and to build self-esteem.
Putting this all again, an individual who is unaware of the meaning of self-existence does not realize how important it is to know what he is capable of and what he is doing; self-awareness srpings from one's self-esteem and trust and channels through one's response and understanding of neighbours and community and, furthermore, helps him realize the true meaning of life with a unique heart for one's existence. In order to have the present school system changed, it is necessary that each one of us need to be changed in terms of the way we view our life. Though two of my classmates have negative opinions and have some points that I go along with, I am not of the same mind as they are. Of course, I recognize their assessment that an organization and an individual cannot be separated as long as we live under the influence of an organization. However, when it comes to problems in education, I am convinced that the need for adjustment of how we view things should get the priority over the changes in an organization. A transition in an organization, so to say the ministry or the board of education, might lead to a faster change in school system and curriculums, but such a change would not last long unless nothing is done to change what we have long thought or believed and done. If there is a change in the minds of an individual, no matter what kinds of systems we might be under, there will sure be a clear sign of change in the education system.
Humans are never born to have the likes of a machine that only knows how to gratify the needs of society and its culture and response to the temporary patch over what they have suffered. We all need a certain amount of free wills to be able to live as what humans need to live in order to learn new things and do as we are taught as well as being aware of why we exist.
