With the train traveling 10 mph the snow begins to pile up on the front of the locomotive. As the first train over this line since the storm MBEMC blasts through the drifts like a destroyer at flank speed. This railroad is mostly 10 mph, so it is slow going pushing thru the drifts out here. When this train went over the detector at MP 32 it read out -29 degrees, which means the crew has to have permission to run when the temperature reaches -25 degrees or below. The dispatcher said at Lyle, MN it only showed -18 degrees according to the weather service. This crew went to work at 6 am at Mason City and cab to Austin, MN to get a loaded KCS feeder train and bring it to Mason City.
