[틈틈이 영어공부] get over it

- 영한 : 극복하다, 이겨내다, 해내다, (더이상 마음에 담아두지 않고)잊어버리다
※직역하면 ‘다리를 건너다’는 의미지만, 여기서는 ‘잊고 앞으로 나아가라’는 뜻이다.

- 영영 : used to tell somebody that they should stop worrying about something which you think is not important or not their business

- 유사/동일 : get it over with / (특히 불쾌한 일을) 끝내버리다.

※Let's get it over with. / 그 일은 어서 끝냅시다. 

- 예문 : 

(이성교제)이제 그만 정리하고 잊어.
Time will help you get over him/her.
You just have to move on and get over him/her.

He’ll get over it, young people are amazingly resilient.
그는 그것을 극복할 거예요. 젊은이들은 회복력이 놀라울 정도니까.

Teresa: That teacher is stupid!
테리사: 그 선생님은 바보야!

Sandra: Get over it. She's not stupid.
샌드라: 그만 해둬. 선생님은 바보가 아니야.

Teresa: Well she doesn't know how to teach.
테리사: 어쨌던 선생님은 가르치는 법을 몰라.

Sandra: Because you bombed your test she doesn't know how to teach?
샌드라: 네가 시험을 망쳤다고 선생님이 잘 못 가르치신다는 얘기니?

Teresa: Yes. If she knew how to teach I wouldn't have failed my test.
테리사: 그럼. 가르치는 법을 잘 아셨다면 내가 시험에서 낙제할 리가 없지.

Sandra: You would have passed the test if you hit the books.
샌드라: 네가 열심히 공부했다면 시험에 통과했을 거야.

Teresa: I studied hard.
테리사: 난 열심히 공부했어.

Sandra: Get real. You studied maybe for an hour.
샌드라: 말도 안돼. 넌 한 시간 정도 공부했잖아.

Teresa: How much did you study?
테리사: 넌 얼마나 공부했는데?

Sandra: I studied for ten hours and I was lucky to get an A.
샌드라: 난 열시간은 공부해서 가까스로 A를 받았어.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶ bomb (one's) test: 시험에서 낙제하다 완전히 망치다
"He bombed his biology test." 
(그는 생물학 시험에서 낙제했습니다.)

▶ hit the books: 공부하다
"I can't go out tonight. I have a test tomorrow and I have to hit the books." 
(전 오늘 저녁엔 나가서 놀 수가 없어요. 내일 시험이 있어서 공부해야 하거든요.)

▶ get real: (구어체) 솔직해지다 현실을 직시하다 정신차리다
"Get real. You don't have the money to buy a car like that." 
(현실적으로 생각해보세요. 당신은 그런 차를 살만한 돈이 없잖아요.)
