왜곡된 예수의 말씀/ 곽현목사

새로운 차원의 예수의 말씀 / 도마복음 공부 380 유명한 말씀 ‘너희는 세상의 빛 이요 소금이다‘는 말씀도 심히 왜곡 되어 전파되고 있다. 예수는 분명히 ‘너희는... 이다’라고 하여 상태를 말하고 있다. 그런데 많은 설교가 ‘우리는 세상의 빛이 되어야 하고 소금이 되어야 합니다‘라고 한다. 이 말은 예수의 말씀과는 정 반대다. 예수는 ‘너희는 빛이다, 소금이다’ 라고 하여 이미 빛과 소금임을 말씀하고 있는데 설교자는 ‘빛이 되어야 하고 소금이 되어야 한다‘고 함으로 빛이 아니요, 소금이 아니라고 말하고 있기 때문이다. 물론 빛과 소금의 역할을 강조하기 위해서 그런다고 변명할지 모르나 그래도 그래서는 안된다. ‘여러분은 세상의 빛과 소금인데 왜 빛이 나타나지 않고 소금의 역할이 행해지지 않는지 겉으로 나타난 행위가 아닌 본질을 점검해 보십시오. 그러면 분명히 여러분의 의식이 그리스도와 단절되어 있을 것입니다. 따라서 빛이 나타나고 소금의 역할이 행해지도록 모든 초점을 그리스도께 맞추시고 성령의 인도하심을 따르십시오. 그러면 자연스럽게 빛과 소금의 역할이 나타나게 될 것입니다‘라고 해야 제대로 된 설교가 되는 것이다. 사랑장으로 유명한 고린도전서 13장의 사랑에 대한 말씀도 마찬 가지다. 분명히 거기서는 모두 사랑의 속성을 말하고 있다. ‘사랑은 이러이러하다’고 진술하고 있는 것이다. 그런데 많은 사람들이 ‘행위’를 요구하고 있다. ‘온전한 사랑을 하기 위해서는 오래 참아야 합니다. 시기하지 말아야 합니다. 교만해서는 안됩니다‘ 다 말이 안되는 소리들이다. 그렇게 ‘행위’를 만들어 내라는 말로 해석하고 적용하면 모두 위선과 가식이 되고 만다. 바울은 ‘사랑의 특징은 이러이러 하다. 너희의 삶을 돌아보라. 과연 이런 특징들이 나타나고 있는가? 아니라면 뭐가 문제인지 알겠는가? 너희의 초점이 사랑이신 하나님께 맞추어져 있지 않다는 증거요, 너희 마음 속에 예수 그리스도를 온전히 모시고 있지 못하다는 증거다. 따라서 정신을 바짝 차리고 본질로 돌이키라‘고 하고 있다. 마태복음의 8복도 마찬가지다. ‘여러분 천국에 들어가려면 마음을 비워야 합니다‘라고 하면 완전 엉터리다. ‘마음이 가난한 자는 행복합니다. 왜냐하면 천국이 그의 것이기 때문입니다‘ 어떻게 이 말이 ‘천국을 얻고 들어가려면 마음을 가난하게 해야 합니다‘로 풀릴 말씀인가? ‘마음이 가난한 상태 = 천국을 소유한 상태‘라는 의미가 아닌가? In this continuation of the study on Jesus' teachings, we explore another commonly misunderstood and misinterpreted passage: "You are the light of the world and the salt of the earth." Jesus clearly states, "You are..." indicating a present condition, a state of being. However, many sermons and teachings misrepresent this by saying, "We must become the light of the world and the salt of the earth," which directly contradicts what Jesus is saying. Jesus declares that we *are* light and salt, but when preachers say that we *must become* light and salt, they are implying that we are not yet what Jesus has already declared us to be. While it may be intended to emphasize the roles and responsibilities of being light and salt, this approach can lead to a misunderstanding of the nature of Jesus' message. A more accurate teaching would be to affirm, "You are the light and salt of the world, so if this light is not shining or this salt is not fulfilling its purpose, it's time to examine the essence of your connection with Christ. It's not about striving to become light or salt but about recognizing what is obstructing the natural expression‎ of these qualities in your life. Focus on Christ and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and the light and salt will naturally manifest in your actions." This would more faithfully reflect Jesus' message. Similarly, in 1 Corinthians 13, often referred to as the "Love Chapter," Paul is describing the attributes of love: "Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud..." These are descriptions of love's nature. Yet, many teachings turn this into a set of behavioral instructions: "To love perfectly, you must be patient, you must not envy, you must avoid pride." This interpretation misses the point. If the focus is on producing these behaviors through effort, it leads to hypocrisy and pretense. What Paul is really saying is: "This is what love looks like. Examine your life—are these qualities present? If not, it's a sign that your focus is not truly on God, who is love, and that Christ is not fully reigning in your heart. Therefore, realign your focus on the essence of love—God Himself—and let His presence in you naturally produce these qualities." The emphasis is not on changing behavior but on restoring the connection with the source of love, which will then naturally manifest in the described behaviors. The same principle applies to the Beatitudes in Matthew 5. When Jesus says, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven," it is not a command to "empty your heart to enter the kingdom."
