다시 물 얘기

여자들 살림하다보면 가장 힘든 때가 단수 되는 때 아닐가 싶어요. 그것도 장기간...아마 하루 이상?

욕조에 다라이에 받아논 물은 떨어지고...

변기 물도 못내리고 냄새 나는데로 뚜껑 덮어 놓고

세수 했던 물로 발 씯고 다시 그 물에 걸레 빨고 걸레 빤 물로 바닥 헹구구요...

 어릴 때 외할머니 댁이 시골이라 빨래를 냇가에 가서 했는데요. 한겨울에도  도랑에서 얼음짱 같은 물로 손 시퍼렇게 얼어가며 빨래 두드리던 할머니...

지금은 돌아가시고 안 계시지만...윽...

저는 그 차갑던 물이 생생히 손끝에 느껴지는 듯해요.

빨래를 하자마자 짜서 널어도 뚝뚝 부러질거 같았던...

그나마 물이란 놈이 지척에 있어서 씻고 닦고 살았죠.

그런데 얼마전 울 딸래미랑 tv 보는데 4살 짜리 인도 여자아이가 자기 몸집만한 물동이를 들고 1킬로 넘는 거리에 물을 길러 가는 걸 보았죠. 우리 딸이 묻습디다..왜 그러냐고...

그래서  물이 없어서 그런다...4살 짤리 아이의 눈빛이 너무나 고단해 보이는 거에요.

물을 길러 하루 5킬로씩 걸어다니는 여자들.

관절염으로 고생한답니다. ㅠㅠ

수도에서 흘러나오는 깨끗한 물이 아이의 표정도 바꾸어주는군요

“I remember before the tap came. There was lack of water indeed – I used to walk 5km to get water every day. I used to spend at least two hours walking there, and two hours back. I spent all day collecting water.

“I am very happy because I do not have to walk so far distances. I used to have pains from walking so far. I had pain in the legs mainly. Sometimes when everybody was tired and was not able to walk long distances we had water from the well and got very sick.”

예전에 bbc에서 어떤 프로 본적 있는데,
아프리카에서 많은 질병으로 많은 사람들이 죽는 이유가 깨끗한 식수가 없기 떄문이라더군요,,,
너무 불쌍한 일인것 같아요.,.. 기본적으로 마실 깨끗한 물이 없다는 것,,,쩝,,,
저희도 남편이 아프리카쪽에 지원하는 단체에서 자원봉사하고
인도와 아프리카쪽에 지원하는 단체에 약간의 후원하고 있는데,,,
몇푼 안 쓰지만 그래도 소식지 받아보면 도움이 되고 잇는 것 같아서 뿌듯하더군요,,
