워런 버핏 버크셔해서웨이 회장

빌앤드멀린다게이츠재단의 신탁관리인 자리에서 사임했다고 밝혔다.

23일(현지 시간) 미 경제 방송 CNBC와 뉴욕타임스(NYT) 등에 따르면 버핏 회장은

41억 달러(약 4조 5,600억 원) 상당의 주식을 빌앤드멀린다게이츠재단을 포함한 5개 재단에 기부한다고 밝혔다. 

“나는 (재단의) 마크 수즈먼 최고경영자(CEO)에게 전폭적인 지지를 보내고 있다”며 “재단의 목표와 나의 목표는 100% 일치하기 때문에 나의 물리적인 참여가 중요하지 않다”고 설명했다.

버핏 회장이 기부를 약속한 5개 재단은 버핏 회장 첫 부인의 이름을 딴 수전톰프슨버핏재단과 그의 자녀들이 운영하는 하워드버핏재단, 빌 게이츠 전 마이크로소프트(MS) 회장이 세운 빌앤드멀린다게이츠재단, 셔우드재단, 노보재단이다. CNBC에 따르면 버핏 회장이 지난 수년간 이들 5개 재단에 기부한 금액은 총 410억 달러(약 46조 5,000억 원)에 달한다.
