立本(입본)은 지혜의 근본을 세우는 것이다.
  Establishing the Foundation(立本,입본) means establishing the foundation of wisdom.

지혜의 근본이 되는 것은 뜻(志,지)이다.
  The foundation of wisdom is will(志,지 - purpose / intent).

뜻을 가지고 지혜로우면 구제되고,
  If one possesses a strong will and is wise, they will be saved.

뜻을 잃은 상태에서 지혜로우면 구제될 수 없다.
  If oneis wise but has lost their will, they cannot be saved.

스스로를 구제하는 지혜가 없다면 남을 구제하는 지혜도 부족한 것이다.
  If one lacks the wisdom to save oneself, 
  then their wisdom to save others is also deficient.

立本者는 立智本也라 (입본자는 입지본야라)
 One who establishes the foundation is establishing the foundation of wisdom.

智之本은 志也니 (지지본은 지야니)
  The foundation of wisdom is the will.
  
帶志而智則濟하고 (대지이지즉제하고)
  If one carries a will and possesses wisdom, they will attain salvation.

失志而智則不濟하나니 (실지이지즉부제하나니)
  If one loses their will, even with wisdom, they will not attain salvation.

無自濟之智면 欠濟人之智니라. (무자제지지면 흠제인지지니라.)
  If one lacks the wisdom of self-salvation, they are deficient in the wisdom of saving others.

 [Interpretation, 풀이]

지혜의 근본이 뜻(志,지)이라는 가르침은 참으로 의미가 깊다.
  The teaching that the foundation of wisdom is the will(志,지) is truly profound in its meaning.

인간에게 궁극적인 뜻(志,지)이란 곧 완전한 인간이 되어
윤회의 순환을 잇는 고리를 끊고 영생불멸하는 것이라 할 수 있으며
  For human beings, the ultimate will(志,지) can be defined as becoming a perfected human,
   breaking the cycle of samsara(Reincarnation), and attaining eternal immortality.

그 방법은 性通光明(성통광명), 在世理化(재세이화),
弘益人間(홍익인간)을 이루어 一神(일신)에게 되돌리는 것이다.
  The path to this is to achieve Seongtong-gwangmyeong(Attuning one′s nature to the divine light),
   Jaese-ihwa(governing and educating the world with divine principles),
   and Hongik-ingan(broadly benefiting all of humanity),
   thereby returning oneself to the One Supreme being(一神,일신).

이 이치를 잃은 지혜란 자신을 구제할 수 없고 남을 구제할 수 없으리라는 것은 너무도 당연하다.
  It goes without saying that any wisdom lacking this foundational truth can neither
   save oneself nor save others.

  ※ Key philosophical Terms.
     * 윤회(Samsara / Cycle of Reincarnation) : 생사의 반복의 고리를 뜻합니다.
     * 性通光明(성통광명) : Attuning one′s true nature to achieve bright, divine enlightenment.
                                   (본성을 통하여 광명을 열다).
     * 在世理化(재세이화) : Governing the world according to the rational laws of heaven.
                                   (세상에 있으면서 다스려 변화시키다).
     * 弘益人間(홍익인간) : Broadly benefiring all mankind / Devoting to the welfare of humanity.
                                   (널리 인간 세상을 이롭게 하다).
     * 一神(일신) : The One Supreme Being / The Ultimate Divine Source.
                       (우주의 근본이 되는 하나의 신성한 존재를 의미합니다).
