가수 「Joan Baez」가 직접 가사를 쓰고 곡을 붙인

작품으로 "불에 탄 숯이 오래되면 다이아몬드가 되고,

철(鐵)도 오래 되면 녹이 슨다"는 의미로 연인(戀人)이던

'Bob Dylan'과 헤어지고 난 뒤, 멀리 서 걸려온 그의

전화를 받고 과거를 회상(回想)하는 노래입니다.

「Joan Baez」의 곡 중에서 국내 팬들의 사랑을

받은 노래는 '양희은'이 "아름다운 것들"로 번안 하여

불렀던 "Mary Hamilton"과 "Amazing Grace",

"Donna Donna" 등이 있습니다.
