3. 오늘의 묵상칼럼 : 위기 속에서 드러나는 진짜 신뢰 (True Trust Revealed in Crisis)

   우리의 삶에 갑작스러운 풍랑이 일어날 때, 우리가 붙들고 있는 진짜 신뢰의 대상이 누구인지 명확히 드러납니다. 평온할 때는 누구나 하나님을 믿는다고 고백할 수 있습니다. 하지만 제자들이 바다 한가운데서 무서운 바람을 만나 두려움에 떨었듯, 예기치 못한 위기는 우리 믿음의 가짜 껍데기를 벗겨내고 마음 깊은 곳의 실상을 직면하게 만듭니다. 오스왈드 챔버스가 던지는 질문처럼, "위기가 닥쳤을 때 당신이 진짜로 의지하는 대상은 솔직히 누구입니까? 당신의 능력입니까, 통장 잔고입니까, 사람의 도움입니까, 아니면 만물을 통치하시는 예수 그리스도입니까?"

   주님은 풍랑 속에서 괴로이 노 젓는 제자들을 외면하지 않으시고 물 위를 걸어 다가오셨습니다. 그리고 떨고 있는 그들을 향해 "안심하라 내니 두려워하지 말라"(막 6:50)고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님이 찾아오셨음에도 제자들이 놀라고 무서워했던 이유는 환경의 거침 때문이 아니라, 그 순간 예수님이 어떤 분이신지 잊어버렸기 때문입니다. 마태복음 8장 26절에서 예수님은 "어찌하여 무서워하느냐 믿음이 작은 자들아"라고 책망하신 뒤 바람과 바다를 꾸짖으셨습니다. 풍랑을 두려워하는 것은 환경이 너무 커 보여서가 아니라, 주님의 능력이 너무 작게 느껴지기 때문입니다.

   위기는 하나님이 우리를 버리셨다는 증거가 아니라, 우리가 누구를 신뢰해야 하는지 다시 가르쳐 주시는 거룩한 기회입니다. 풍랑보다 크신 주님, 바다 위를 걸으시는 그분의 존재 자체를 바라볼 때 비로소 두려움은 안심으로 바뀝니다. 내가 처한 상황이 아무리 어둡고 풍랑이 거세게 일지라도, "내니 두려워하지 말라" 말씀하시는 주님의 음성에 귀를 기울이십시오. 오늘 이 아침, 나의 힘과 계산을 내려놓고 바람과 바다를 명하여 잔잔케 하시는 예수 그리스도만을 온전히 신뢰하기로 결단합시다.

4.  영문판 묵상칼럼 : True Trust Revealed in Crisis

   When sudden storms arise in our lives, the true object of our trust is instantly laid bare. In moments of calm, anyone can confess their faith in God. However, just as the disciples trembled when confronted by the fierce winds in the middle of the sea, unexpected crises strip away the superficial layers of our faith, forcing us to confront the true state of our hearts. As Oswald Chambers challenges us to ask: When crisis hits, who do you honestly rely on? Is it your own capabilities, your bank account, human help, or Jesus Christ, who reigns over all creation?

   The Lord did not turn a blind eye to the disciples struggling at the oars; He walked on the water to reach them. To their trembling hearts, He proclaimed, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid" (Mark 6:50). The disciples were terrified not merely because of the harsh environment, but because, in that moment, they forgot who Jesus truly was. In Matthew 8:26, Jesus rebuked them, saying, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" before calming the winds and the waves. We fear the storm not because the storm is too big, but because our perception of the Lord’s power has become too small.

   A crisis is not evidence that God has abandoned us; rather, it is a holy opportunity where He teaches us anew whom we ought to trust. When we fix our eyes on the Lord—who is greater than any storm and who walks above the raging waters—our fear turns into comfort. No matter how dark your situation or how fierce the surrounding winds may be, listen closely to the voice of the Lord saying, "It is I; do not be afraid." Today, let us lay down our own strength and calculations, deciding to place our complete trust in Jesus Christ alone, who commands even the wind and the waves to be still.
