1. Demand Trend
○ Speed Gate and Slim Gate also known as security gate, pedestrian access security entrance lanes or entrance gates in Malaysia, more commonly sighted in commercial buildings such as office buildings.
○ Although the product long existed in Malaysia, it is only used in private
○ Malaysian building owners do not feel the need to go through something troublesome which is to implement the product because it would need a system to integrate and local folks feel there's no need to spend the unnecessary expenses on main entrance security, only provide security for parking lots.
○ Only a handful of companies said that demand of this product is getting higher. These companies usually import China brand security gate and label the products with their own brand on it. ○ Majority of the companies and their customer prefer European brands because it is more reliable, has the quality although more expensive.
○ One of the company even commented that they are very reluctant to try out any Asian brands even if the products are origin from Japan, Korea, especially China because they trusted on European brands and it has been proven to be maintenance-free, according to the report of Twenty-Twenty Technology Sdn Bhd.
○ Customer don’t mind paying higher price for better quality product which
○ A self-claimed market leader, Kumpulan Abex Sdn Bhd which is a local manufacturer complaint that China product indeed offers low price but poor and bad support for the after sales service. However, he suggested that any product can be well-received if marketed in the right way. Going against majority opinion, the director says that the demand is high reasoning that every building needs it. Some of his previous projects were at installing similar security gate at the RHB, Menara Citi Bank, PWTC, Menara Perak, Intel Penang.
○ Although so, there are also forecast statements saying that China product is foreseen to be taking over, being the major player in the pedestrian security access in Malaysia market.
○ However, the market has seen stable growth in the demand for European products in pedestrian security access in Malaysia market.
○ However, there are some also saying that China is more dominant last time due to more acceptable price but now the time has called for change in the pedestrian security market in Malaysia.
○ Smaller scale companies prefers China brand because it is cheaper (price factor) and it meet their needs because of the lack of cash flow.
○ Whereas bigger scale companies are looking towards quality products mainly from Europe like Holland and German.
○ Besides that, there are some Malaysian companies that manufacture their own brand.
○ According to Digital Entrance Security Systems Sdn Bhd, here was two years period of time without any orders for the security gate from customers. Just recently, offered the company which sourced a China brand.
○ In the long run, companies would still look back at quality and after sales service although price is one of their main concerns too but they would also be willing to pay to get the product that meets their security requirement. ○ Some companies mentioned that design is also one of the important criteria to consider in a pedestrian security product.
○ Some of the existing brands in Malaysia included: - JSST from China distributed by Digital Entrance Security Systems Sdn Bhd - Gunnebo from Europe distributed byTwenty-Twenty Technology Sdn Bhd - MAG a Malaysian brand (parts assembled from Malaysia and also oversea but considered Malaysian brand) by Magnet Security & Automation - Boon Edam from Holland supplied by Boon Edam South East Asia Sdn.Bhd. - Abexmanufactured by Malaysian company Kumpulan Abex Sdn Bhd themselves - Digital Sentry distributed by Digital Sentry Systems Sdn Bhd themselves - Oryxer, China product branded after Oryxer Technologies Sdn Bhd after the non-branded product reach them

2. Competition Trend
○ The local industry is saturated with many players, be it locally manufactured or imported brands.
○ Popular brands like Magnetic Autocontrol , which is German made is more well known in the market of pedestrian access in Malaysia. One of the pioneers Cinema namely Golden Screen Cinema(GSC) is using their brand of the pedestrian access gate.
○ ORYXER, a China made non-branded product that takes on the local company’s name as its brand.
○ For other brands such as JSST from China, GUNNEBO from Germany and BOON EDAM from Holland. ○ MAG, a Malaysian brand which parts taken from overseas and assembled locally. Abex, also a Malaysian brand which manufactured locally. ○ From the research, it can be seen that the Europe products are dominating the market. As mentioned above, many agreed that the brand Magnetic Autocontrol is dominant in the market. ○ If compared to China pedestrian security access products, Magnetic Autocontrol is more widely-spread as an individual brand.
○ Even though China products are widely spread too, but it consists of different China brands, unlike Magnetic Autocontrol. ○ China products place the biggest threat and remain the biggest competitor of the market causing price war to constantly occur with other brands. ○ However, other brands especially German made are gaining larger and long lasting customer base for offering high quality in the product. ○ As mentioned, demand of this product is generally low in Malaysian market but there is high competition among the suppliers with non-other-than China companies.
○ On the other hand, there were rare comments stating that because of the moderate demand, hence the market is not that competitive yet.
○ But many more trust the products of German when it comes to the aspect of trust and price as the secondary criteria.
