Your work is very conceptual, every piece seems to have a clear message portrayed in a clever way.

당신 작업은 매우 관념적입니다. 모든 작품들은 명확한 메시지를 멋진 방법으로 표현하고 있는 것처럼 보이는데요.

What was the most challenging concept for an illustration you ever had to think up?

여태껏 생각해야만 했던 일러스트레이션 중에서 가장 매력적인 관념은 무엇인가요?

The toughest concepts to find are the ones I’ve done hundread of times, or the ones where the themes are “delicates” like “hemorroids(hemorrhoids)” or “circoncision”…

가장 집요하게 발견하려 했던 개념들은 내가 백번은 생각했던 것입니다. 그렇잖으면, 그 주제들은 “치질” 혹은 “circoncision”와 같은 “민감한” 것들입니다.

* circoncision이란 단어는 아무리 찾아도 없네요. 내용으로 볼 때는 “주변부 절개” 이런 뜻으로 해석해도 될런지 모르겠습니다.

One of my most challenging concept to find is “Morbid Obesity”.

내가 발견하려 했언 가장 매혹적인 관념 중의 하나는 “병적인 비만”입니다.

Its a story about a morbidly obese couple who (after they are married) decide to have bariatric surgery together. 

그것은, 결혼한 후에 함께 비만 치료 수술을 받을 것을 결정했던 병적인 비만을 가진 부부에 관한 이야기입니다. 

His goes well, but there are complications with her and after 4 years of struggle, she eventually dies.

남편은 수술이 잘 되었습니다. 하지만, 아내는 합병증이 있었고 4년 간의 투병 끝에 결국은 사망했습니다.

The scale becomes the tomb stone, the colour of the entire illustration are muted and dark except for the flowers which are saturated and lighter.

그 작품의 규모는 비석 정도의 크기였습니다. 전체 일러스트레이션의 색깔은 꽃의 경우 좀더 밝고, 명도나 채도면에서 포화상태에 이른 점을 제외한다면, 부드러우면서도 어두운 것이었습니다.

But for me, the most challenging conceptual project is always the next one…

하지만, 나를 제쳐놓고 본다면, 가장 매력적인 관념이라 보이는 프로젝트는 항상 바로 이웃입니다.

circoncision는 할례나 포경수술을 말하는 같군요.

cir하고 concision이 따로 놀아서 합성을 해 보니 저런 의미가 되던데, 아 이렇게 생각할 수 있겠네요. 그럼, 주변부가 아니라 "부분 절개" 정도의 의미가 되는 모양입니다. 도와주셔서 감사합니다.
