  올해 2026년은 1945년 8월 15일 광복 이후 81주년째 되는 잃어버렸던 빛을 되찾은 광복(光復)의 아침입니다. 억압과 사슬에서 벗어나 자유를 누리는 기쁨은 민족의 역사 속에서 가장 찬란한 은혜의 순간이었습니다. 그러나 성경과 신앙의 선진들은 우리에게 한 걸음 더 깊은 영적 질문을 던집니다. "우리는 과연 진정한 자유를 누리고 있는가?"

   오스왈드 챔버스는 거듭남의 본질을 명쾌하게 짚어냅니다. 거듭남은 단순히 종교적인 위안을 얻는 데 그치지 않고, '죄를 멈출 수 있는 실제적인 능력'을 소유하게 되는 것입니다. 우리는 이전까지 죄의 종노릇을 하며 끌려다닐 수밖에 없었지만, 그리스도 안에서 새 생명을 얻은 자는 더 이상 죄에 굴복할 이유가 없습니다. 빛 가운데서 죄를 거절하고 하나님을 향해 순종할 수 있는 거룩한 자유가 주어진 것입니다.

   광복은 단순히 억압을 벗어난 상태(Freedom from)로 완성되지 않습니다. 진정한 자유는 '무엇을 위한 자유인가(Freedom for)'로 나아가야 합니다. 예수님께서는 진정한 복의 비결을 말씀하셨습니다. "오히려 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 지키는 자가 복이 있느니라."

   사슬에서 풀려난 자유인이 다시 옛 습관과 죄의 방종으로 돌아간다면 그것은 또 다른 영적 식민지 상태에 불과합니다. 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 해방의 생명은, 매일 아침 주의 말씀을 귀 기울여 듣고 그 말씀에 자발적으로 순종하는 삶으로 꽃피워야 합니다.

   오늘 광복절 아침, 우리에게 베푸신 민족의 해방에 감사하며, 동시에 내 영혼이 그리스도 안에서 누리는 완전한 해방을 점검해 봅니다. 이제 우리는 죄를 짓지 않아도 되는 자유인입니다. 말씀을 듣고 지키는 거룩한 순종을 통해, 참된 빛과 참된 복을 세상 가운데 비추는 복된 하루가 되기를 소망합니다.

Liberation Day Morning: True Freedom and Holy Obedience

"He replied, 'Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.'"
 Luke 11:28

"To be born again means that you have the power to stop sinning. Obedience to the life of God means that you do not have to sin."

   Today, on August 15th—National Liberation Day—  we commemorate the morning when the light was restored to our nation. The joy of breaking free from oppression and chains stands as one of the most radiant moments of grace in our history. Yet, scripture and the wisdom of spiritual forebears lead us into a deeper reflection: "Are we truly walking in genuine freedom?"

   Oswald Chambers clearly defines the essence of the new birth. Being born again is not merely a subjective emotional comfort; it means receiving the actual power to stop sinning. Where we once lived as captives to the power of sin, the new life in Christ breaks that bondage. We no longer have to sin. We have been granted the holy freedom to say "no" to darkness and walk in the divine life of God.

   Liberation is not complete merely as freedom from oppression; it must mature into freedom for righteousness. Jesus declared the true path of blessedness: "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

   If a person set free from physical chains returns to the indulgence of sin, they have merely entered another form of spiritual captivity. The liberating life God has given us is meant to flourish through listening attentively to His Word and choosing voluntary, loving obedience each day.

   On this Liberation Day morning, as we give thanks for the historical freedom of our nation, let us also rejoice in the deeper spiritual liberation found in Christ. We are now free people who no longer need to be ruled by sin. May our lives shine with true light as we hear His Word and walk in the joy of holy obedience.
