- if you will/would: 정중한 요구(would가 더 정중하다)
I would be very grateful if you would make the arrangements for me. If you will/would wait a moment I'll see if Mr. Jones is free.(=Please wait)
상황에 따른 요구일 때, if you will/would가 단독으로 쓰일 수 있다.
If you'd just sign the register. (호텔에서) If you'd open your books. (교실에서)
- if + will/would: willingness
If he'll listen to me I'll be able to help him. If Tom would tell me what he wants for his dinner, I'd cook it for him. If he won't (is willing to) listen to me, I can't help him.
- will: 고집
If you will play the drums all night no wonder the neighbours complain.
- if + would like/care=if + want/wish
If you would like to come I'll get a ticket for you. If you like I'll get a ticket for you.(목적어가 없으면 would 생략) If you'd care to see the photographs I'll bring them round some evening.
- if + should: 가정법 현재에서(가능하지만 매우 희박한 상황)
If you should have any difficulty in getting spare parts, ring this number. If these biscuits should arrive in a damaged condition, please inform the factory at once. Should this machine fail, ring the bell and wait.
- if + was --> if + were(was보다는 were가 더 많이 쓰이며, 사실의 반대일 때는 were를 쓰는 경향이 있다. 그리고 were의 경우만 도치가 가능하다.)
If she was/were offered the job she'd take it. If I was/were you I should wait a bit. Were I you I should wait. | |
