당신의 그 어떤 것보다 먼저 존재하는 것

Nothing can be known by you unless you are there first. Before you can think about your name, your status, your body, your beliefs, your opinions, your problems, your story or the world - there is first the quiet sense that you are here (you exist). This natural knowing of ‘I am’ is the ground in which everything appears. 

먼저 그곳에 있지 않으면 어떤 것도 알 수 없습니다. 자신의 이름, 지위, 몸, 신념, 의견, 문제, 이야기, 혹은 세상에 대해 생각하기 전에, 먼저 ‘내가 여기 있다(존재한다)’는 고요한 느낌이 있습니다. 이 ‘나는 있다’는 자연스러운 깨달음이야말로 모든 것이 드러나는 토대입니다. 

Everything in the universe is impermanent except the unseen cosmic observer that perceives the phenomena of ever-changing appearances. That which is ‘real’ is constant and cannot change because it transcends names, time, age, locality and form. 

끊임없이 변화하는 현상을 지각하는 보이지 않는 우주적 관찰자를 제외하고는, 우주에 존재하는 모든 것은 무상합니다. ‘진실’인 것은 이름, 시간, 시대, 장소, 형상을 초월하기 때문에 변함없이 일정하며 결코 변할 수 없습니다. 

The reason you cannot recognize your fundamental essence (prior to this or that) is because your Imageless Self is obscured by thoughts that are deeply embedded in your mind (opinions, language, beliefs, memories, fears, addictions, habits and social conditioning).

여러분이 (이것이나 저것 이전의) 자신의 근본적인 본질을 인식하지 못하는 이유는, 마음속에 깊이 뿌리내린 생각들(의견, 언어, 신념, 기억, 두려움, 중독, 습관, 사회적 조건화)이 ‘형상 없는 자아’를 가리고 있기 때문입니다.
