1. 훨씬 더 ~한
 much. even, still, far, by far, yet, a goid deal, a good deal + 비교급(우열의 정도나 차이)
I feel much better today.
오늘은 사뭇 기분이 좋다.
He spoke English far better than she.
그는 그녀보다 영어를 훨씬 잘 했다.
This is by far the better of the two.
이것은 둘 중에서 훨씬 낫다.
To understand each other's shortcoming is even more important than to love each other's merits.
서로의 결점을 인정하는 것은 서로의 장점을 사랑하는 것보다 훨씬 중요하다.
This is a great deal better than that.
이것이 저것보다 훨씬 낫다.
 
2.비교급+and  +비교급
점점 ~하다
저욱 더 ~하게 되다
(점층적 증가)
There is less and less time for reading.
독서하는 시간이 점점 줄어간다.

사태는 날로 악화되어 간다.
It is getting darker and darker.
날이 점점 어두워지고 있다.
 
3. the+비교급~ ,  the +비교급~
~ 하면 할수록 그만큼 더 ~하다
The more one has, the more one wants.
사람은 많이 가지면 가질수록
그만큼 더 욕심을 낸다.
The more she flatters, the less I like her.
아첨하면 할수록, 나는 그녀가 싫어진다.
 
4. no more than+수사
단지~ 에 지나지 않다

그녀는 단지 9달러밖에 없다.

5. no less than+수사
~ 만큼이나
= as much(many) as
많다는 기분
She has no less than 1p dollars.
그녀는 10달러나 가지고 있다.
not less than+수사
적어도= at least
She has not lessthan 10 dollars.
그녀는 적어도 10달러는 가지고 있다.
 
6. all (so much) the + 비교급 ~for/ (owing to/ because of/ on account of)+ 명사(대명사/ 동명사)
= >부사구/ 
because +S+V=>부사절
긍정문: ~하기 때문에 더욱 ~하다
부정문: ~해도 여전히 ~하다
all, so much는 강조 어구
I like her all the better for her kindness.
= I like her so much the better because she is kind.
= As she is kind, I like her all the better.
나는 그녀가 친절하기 때문에 더욱 그녀를 좋아한다.
You should not think the worse of a man because he is poor.
I don't love her the less because she has faults.
=~ because of her faults.
=I  Iove her none the less because she has faults.
그녀가 결점이 있어도 나는 여전히 그녀를 사랑한다.
 
7. not less +형용사 A+than B= at least as or more
~ 못지 않게
She is not less beautiful than her sister.
그녀는 그녀의 언니 못지않게 아름답다.
She is not less intelligent than kind.
그녀는 친절할 뿐 아니라 총명하기도 하다.
* not only B but also A
B뿐만 아니라 A도  ~하기도 하다
The pauper is not only playful but also lazy.
그 가난뱅이는 놀기 좋아핳 뿐만 아니라 게으르다.
 
8. not so much A as B
= not A so much as B
= B rather than A
A 라기 보다는 B다
He is not so much dilligent  as wise.
= He is more wise than dilligent.
= He is wise rather than dilligent.
그는 부지런하기보다는 지혜롭다.
 
9. not so much as + 동사
= not even + 동사
~ 조차도 않다
She cannot so much as write his own name in English.
그녀는 영어로 자신의 이름조차 못쓴다.
 
10. A is no more B than C is D
=A is not B any more than C is D
= as little ~as~
A가 B가 아닌 것은 C가 D 아닌 것과 같다
A whale is no more a fish than a horse is.
= A whale is not a fish any more than a horse is.
= A whale is as little a fish as a horse is.
고래가 물고기가 아닌 것은
말이 물고기가 아닌 것과 같다.
고래는 말과 같이 물고기가 아니다.

그는 (부지런하기는 하지만)

~할  만큼 어리석지 않다

대강/ 다소

그는 다소 취했었다.

~와 다름없는

17.부정어구~ the less for+ 명사
= 긍정어구~ none the less for + 명사
~에도 불구하고 여전히 ~하다
I don't like her the less for her faults.
=She has faults, but I like her none the less.
= I like her none the less fir her faults(부정의 이유 구문 강조)
그녀는 결점이 있는데도 불구하고 나는 여전히 그녀를 좋아한다.
 
18. more than의 3 방법
1) ~ 이상의(형용사적)
More than six days have passed since I came here.
내가 여기에 온 지 6일 이상이 지났다.
2) 매우 ~하다(부사적)
He is more than wise.
= He is very wise
3) ~가 ~할 수 없는 것(부정적) what ~ not +S+V
His behavior is more than I can understand.
= His behavior is what I cannot understand.
= His behavior is beyond my understanding.
그의 태도는 내가 이해할 수 없는 것이다.
 
19.부정어 + 비교급+ than one can help
될 수 있는대로 ~ 하지 말라
Don't spend more than you can help.
될 수 있는대로 돈을 소비하지 마라.
 
20. the last
= most unlikely
가장 ~할 것 같지 않은
He is the last man to tell a lie.
= He is the most unlikely man to tell a lie.
그는 결코 거짓말을 할 사람이 아니다.
* She was the last to come.
그녀는 맨 마지막에 온 사람이다.
 
21.the second + 최상급
= 최상급+but one
두 번째로 가장 ~한
Busan is the second largest city in Korea.
부산은 한국에서 주 번째로 큰 도시이다.
