Durant is on a five-game tear that should have fans in Sacramento, where the Thunder play tonight, getting their popcorn ready. He's averaged 34.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.2 steals during that stretch and piled up games of 52, 37, 32 and 33 points in his last four outings. As we enter the second half of the regular season, Durant appears to be the one player capable of outlasting LeBron James for the top spot.

Leave it up to LeBron to post a triple-double (31 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in a win over Toronto), while battling a nagging cold, and making it look routine. He's desensitized us to his great play because he operates like this on the regular. But that doesn't change the fact that he's maintained his outlandish pace for two years running now, and that includes his otherworldly performance at the London Olympics.
STATS FROM LAST WEEK (1/18-1/24): 28.5 ppg | 6.0 rpg | 5.0 apg | 1.0 spg
Winning in Boston on Thursday night, the first time the Knicks have won in Beantown since 2006, had to be therapeutic for Anthony, who has gotten back into a scoring groove recently (29.8 points over his past five games) in spite of his shooting (40 percent) struggles. Anthony and the Knicks need to be focused on something much more important than individual stats, however, and that's battling the Brooklyn Nets for the Atlantic Division crown.
STATS FROM LAST WEEK (1/18-1/24): 13.0 ppg | 3.0 rpg | 10.0 apg | 1.5 spg
A couple of games without Paul is one thing, even for a team as deep and talented as the Clippers. Not having him for an extended period of time, though, is a much bigger issue. The Clippers have lost back-to-back games, to the Oklahoma City Thunder and lowly Phoenix Suns, without him in uniform. Even worse for the Clippers is the news that his bruised right kneecap is expected to keep him out for two more games.
STATS FROM LAST WEEK (1/18-1/24): 12.7 ppg | 12.0 rpg | 1.0 apg | 1.0 spg
The Western Conference coaches got at least one of their All-Star reserve picks right when they tabbed Randolph for his spot, which despite bellyaching from a segment of the punditry was not at the expense of his frontcourt mate Marc Gasol. They do different things for the Grizzlies, and both have All-Star credentials, but Randolph's a walking double-double and a better defender than he gets credit for being.

Gregg Popovich-prescribed rest and a sore knee have cost Duncan two of his last five games and could keep him out tonight against the Mavericks. But it didn't stop him from being named as a reserve to the Western Conference All-Star team, alongside Spurs point guard Tony Parker. When he's in uniform, Duncan continues to play like the spokesman for basketball's Fountain of Youth (22.3 points on 56 percent shooting, 11.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.0 blocks in his last three games).
STATS FROM LAST WEEK (1/18-1/24): 25.8 ppg | 5.8 rpg | 6.3 apg | 0.8 spg
Lost in the seemingly never-ending chatter about Westbrook's shot selection and penchant for reckless play is the fact that this guy is facilitating (8.1 assists) and rebounding (5.3) better than he ever has, in addition to scoring with the best of them. He forces the action more than some might like occasionally. But it works for the Thunder and works for us, too.
STATS FROM LAST WEEK (1/18-1/24): 26.3 ppg | 3.0 rpg | 6.7 apg | 2.7 spg
Warriors coach Mark Jackson is wrong, the coaches aren't better than that. They botch the reserves for the All-Star team on an annual basis. And Curry being left off of the list was a huge gaffe. That's fine. He'll get his due here. Kudos to David Lee, a most deserving All-Star in his own right, but the point guard shooting 46 percent from beyond the 3-point line and leading his team with 20.9 points, 6.6 assists and 1.7 steals is supposed to be on that team.
STATS FROM LAST WEEK (1/18-1/24): 23.7 ppg | 3.7 rpg | 4.3 apg | 1.0 spg
You know they've hit rock bottom whenKobe's Twitter feed is more interesting to watch than an actual Lakers game. The dysfunction in that locker room has spoiled what should have been a career year for the man known as Mamba. Instead of celebrating him on this list, Kobe is slipping into dangerous territory at the bottom of the stack. The Lakers are 2-8 in their last 10 and the negativity is infecting everyone, including Kobe, who's shooting just 41 percent during that stretch.
STATS FROM LAST WEEK (1/18-1/24): 19.5 ppg | 8.5 rpg | 10.3 apg | 2.0 spg
Rondo is another All-Star whose individual brilliance is being suffocated by his team's struggles. He picked up his fourth triple-double of the season Thursday night, but in a loss to the Knicks in Boston. The Celtics went from a mini-revival (six straight wins) before their current five-game slide began. Maybe the Celtics have run out of the resilient magic they've always seemed to have in surplus. No matter how good he's been, Rondo can't seem to steer the Celtics clear of the mess in the Eastern Conference playoff chase.
