2026.8.20(목) 오늘의 말씀카드, 365묵상글, 예산수정교회 

1. 묵상칼럼 : 자기 연민의 덫에서 십자가의 안식으로

   우리의 마음이 무겁고 지치는 근본적인 원인을 들여다보면, 시선이 온통 '나 자신'에게 갇혀 있을 때가 많습니다. 끊임없는 자아의식(Self-consciousness)은 결핍과 비교를 낳고, 서서히 "왜 나만 이런 고통을 겪어야 하는가"라는 자기 연민으로 변질됩니다. 오스왈드 챔버스의 경고처럼, 자기 연민은 겸손의 모양을 흉내 내며 영혼을 갉아먹는 사탄의 강력한 올무입니다. 그것은 우리를 내면의 상처 속에 고립시켜 하나님의 은혜를 바라보지 못하게 만듭니다.

   스스로 짊어진 자아의 무게로 탈진한 영혼들을 향해 주님은 "수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라"(마 11:28)고 초대하십니다. 주님이 주시는 참된 안식은 자아를 더 강하게 단련하거나 스스로를 위로하는 데서 오지 않습니다. 오직 '나'라는 우상이 십자가에 못 박힐 때 비로소 시작됩니다.

   사도 바울의 고백처럼, 그리스도의 십자가는 세상의 평가와 비대해진 자아가 힘을 잃는 자리입니다(갈 6:14). 십자가 앞에 설 때 우리는 비로소 병든 자기 응시를 멈추고, 나를 구원하신 그리스도의 완전하심을 바라보게 됩니다. 내 자랑과 연민이 모두 죽고 오직 예수 그리스도만 자랑할 때, 영혼을 짓누르던 피로감이 사라지고 하늘의 참된 쉼이 임합니다.

2. 묵상칼럼(영어버전) : From the Trap of Self-Pity to the Rest of the Cross

   When our souls grow weary and heavy-laden, it is often because our gaze is locked entirely inward. Persistent self-consciousness inevitably breeds feelings of deficiency and slowly festers into self-pity—the subtle complaint of "Why must I bear this alone?" As Oswald Chambers warned, self-pity is a trap belonging to the enemy, masquerading as wounded humility. It confines us within the walls of our own perceived injustices, blinding us to God's active grace.

   To those exhausted from carrying the burden of self, Jesus extends a freeing invitation: "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). This divine rest is not found in indulging our emotions or rebuilding our fragile egos; it begins when the self is fully surrendered at the Cross.

   As the Apostle Paul declared, the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ is the definitive place where the world is crucified to us, and we to the world (Galatians 6:14). Standing before the Cross breaks our unhealthy self-obsession, shifting our focus to the Savior who gave His life for us. When self-absorption dies and Christ alone becomes our boast, the heavy chains of self-pity fall away, ushering in genuine, enduring rest for the soul.
