이재명 대통령이 한국을 방문한 존 드라마니 마하마 가나 대통령에게 롯데웰푸드의 ‘가나 초콜릿’을 특별제작해 선물했다. 한국을 실무 방문 형식으로 찾은 마하마 대통령은 11일 이 대통령과 청와대에서 정상회담을 갖는다.

이날 청와대에 따르면, 이 대통령은 전날 방한한 마하마 대통령의 숙소에 가나 초콜릿을 ‘웰컴 선물’로 전달했다. 빨간색 가나 밀크초콜릿 포장지에 마하마 대통령 이름과 양국 국기 사진을 넣는 식으로 특별 제작됐다.

청와대는 가나 초콜릿을 선물로 선정한 이유에 대해 “실제 이 제품은 카카오 원두의 80% 이상을 가나산으로 사용하고 있다”고 밝혔다. 이 대통령은 더불어민주당 대표 재임 시절인 2023년 9월 단식 농성을 하던 중 한 어린이로부터 ‘가나 초콜릿’을 전달받고 큰 힘을 얻은 경험이 있다고 청와대는 전했다.

수군조련도 민화를 선물한 이유에 대해선 “우리 역사를 소개할 뿐 아니라, 한국을 방문한 계기를 상기시키는 선물이 될 것으로 기대한다”며 “개인적으로 역사 탐구를 애호하는 마하마 대통령 취향에도 부합한다”고 했다.
