Photographer Nikoletta Stoyanova juxtaposes scenes of destruction with moments of celebration from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine over the past year. Nikoletta is a recipient of the Ian Parry photojournalism grant which has offered financial support and mentoring to emerging photographers for the last three decades.

14. A mother after giving birth at the Kharkiv maternity hospital in October 2024. Her husband, a military man who she usually saw a few days a month during her pregnancy, was present during her delivery. Their son was born healthy.

2024년 10월 하르키우 산부인과 병원에서 출산한 산모. 그녀의 남편은 군인으로, 임신 중 한 달에 며칠씩은 그녀를 만났지만, 그녀가 출산할 때 함께 있었다. 그들의 아들은 건강하게 태어났다.

15. A mother with her new born baby at the hospital in Kharkiv, in the north-east of Ukraine, 30 km from the border with Russia, during October 2024. The city is constantly under Russian air bombardment. The maternity ward itself has been repeatedly damaged by bomb fragments but still continues to operate.
