7장 한국의 미래, 세계의 미래

바다를 장악하는 나라가 세계의 주역이 된다는 것은 역사가 증명하는 일입니다.

우리가 대비해야 할 것은 해양시대에 살아갈 힘을 갖추는 일입니다. 태평양은 바다입니다. 바다를 다스릴 힘이 없다면 태평양 문명권의 주역이 될 수 없습니다. 아무리 천운이 도래한다 해도 내가 미처 준비가 되어있지 않으면 기회를 잡을 수 없습니다. 우리나라가 중심이 된 해양시대가 열린다는 사실을 알았다면 마땅히 해양시대의 주역이 될 준비를 해야 합니다.

바다에는 물고기만 있는 게 아닙니다. 바다의 더 큰 보물은 바로 에너지원입니다. 석유의 매장량이 감소하면서 에너지원을 둘러싼 위기감이 나날이 높아지고 있습니다. 석유가 바닥이 난다면 인간의 문명세계는 그대로 암흑이 되고 맙니다. 옥수수를 이용한 대체 에너지를 개발한다지만 인류가 먹고 살 식량도 부족한 형편에 그것이 가능할 리 만무합니다. 진정한 대체 에너지는 바다에 있습니다. 바다 속에 묻힌 수소 에너지에 인류의 미래가 있습니다.

지구의 3분 2가 바다입니다. 바꾸어 말하면 인류를 먹여 살릴 원자재의 3분의 2가 바다에 묻혀 있다는 의미입니다. 그러니 바다를 경영하지 못하고는미래를 열어갈 수 없습니다. 이미 선진국들은 바다에서 석유와 천연가스를 캐내고심층수를 끌여올려 비싼 가격에 팔고 있습니다. 바다 속에서 자원을 찾아내는 일은 이제 시작에 불과합니다. 그렇지만 바다에 매달려 온 인류가 먹고살 날이 머지않아 곧 닥치게 됩니다.

해양시대는 저절로 열리지 않습니다. 무엇보다 내가 먼저 바다로 나가야 합니다. 바다로 달려가 배를 타고 파도와 싸워야 합니다. 그런 용기가 없어서는 결코 해양시대를 준비할 수 없습니다. 바다를 점령하는 나라가 이 세상의 패권을 쥘 수 없습니다. 바다를 점령한 나라의 문화와 언어가 세계의 문화와 언어가 되는 세상이 곧 옵니다. 따라서 바다를 창조주의 뜻에 맞게 관리하고 바다의 자원을 잘 운용해야 합니다.

바다는 세계를 결속시키는 구심점이 될 것입니다. 바다의 주인이 되려면 그곳에서 자유롭게 살아갈 수 있는 훈련을 해야 합니다. 나는 고기를 잡는 일을 훈련시킬 때 커다란 배 한 척에 작은 배 열 척을 함께 내보냅니다. 항구를 출발할 때는 큰 배에 딸려 나가지만 넓은 바다에 닿는 순간 작은 배를 탄 사람들은스스로 자신들을 책임져야 합니다. 바람이 어디서 어디로 부는지,바다 밑의 상황은 어떠한지,고기들은 어느 길로 가는지를 스스로 학습해 해결해야 합니다.

서양의 물질문명이 타락의 길을 걸으면서 동양에 기회가 오고 있습니다. 바야흐로 태평양 문명권의 시대가 열리고 있습니다. 새로운 문명시대의 주역은 우리나라를 비롯한 아시아입니다. 우리나라와 일본이 그렇게 짧은 시간에 세계적인 강국으로 급성장한 것은 아시아의 시대가 오고 있다는 것을 반증하는 것이며, 결코 우연이 아닌 역사적 필연입니다.

　　海を掌握する国が世界の主役になるということは、歴史が証明しています。

海洋時代を生きていく力を備えることです。太平洋は海です。海を治める力がなければ、太平洋文明圏の主役になることはできません。いくら天運が到来したとしても、自分がまるで準備ができていなければ、チャンスをつかむことはできないのです。海洋時代の主役になる準備をしなければなりません。

　海には魚だけがいるのではありません。海のもっと大きな宝は、エネルギー源に他なりません。石油の埋蔵量が減少するとともに、エネルギー源をめぐる危機感が日に日に高まっています。石油が底をつけば、人間の文明世界はそのまま暗黒になってしまいます。トウモロコシを利用した代替エネルギーを開発すると言いますが、それは、人類が食べて生きていく食糧も不足している状況では、決して可能なことではありません。本当の代替エネルギーは海にあります。海の中に埋められた水素エネルギーに人類の未来があります。

　地球の三分の二が海です。言い換えれば、人類を食べさせていく資源の三分の二が海に埋まっているということです。ですから、海をきちんと治めることができなければ、未来を開いていくことができません。すでに先進国は、海底から石油と天然ガスを掘り出し、深層水を吸い上げて高い値段で売っています。海の中から資源を探し出すことは、今始まったばかりです。しかし、全人類が海を拠り所として生きていく日が、遠からず訪れてくるでしょう。

　海洋時代はひとりでに開かれるのではありません。何よりも自分が先に海に出ていかなければなりません。船に乗って海に出ていき、波と闘わなければなりません。そのような勇気がなければ、決して海洋時代に備えることはできません。海を占領する国が、世界をリードすることができるのです。海を占領した国の文化と言語が世界の言語と文化となる世の中がすぐにやってきます。したがって、海を創造主の御旨に合うように管理し、海の資源を正しく運用しなければなりません。　　

　海は世界を結束させる求心点となるでしょう。海を治める人になろうとすれば、そこで自由に生きていくことのできる訓練をしなければなりません。

食糧問題は、今後人類に非常に深刻な危機をもたらすでしょう。なぜならば、限りある陸地で生産されるものだけでは地球上の人類をすべて食べさせることはできないからです。ですから、海にその解決策を見いださなければなりません。海は未来の食糧問題を解決できる鍵です。海は神様が下さった福の塊です。私が数十年前から絶えず海を開拓してきた理由もここにあります。食糧問題を解決しなければ、理想的な平和世界を建設することはできません。

物質文明が堕落の道を歩むとともに、東洋にチャンスが巡ってきています。エジプトを経てギリシャ・ローマで発達した文明が、イギリスとアメリカを経て朝鮮半島を囲む太平洋地域に移ってきているのです。今まさに太平洋文明圏の時代が開かれています。新しい文明時代の主役は、韓国をはじめとするアジアです。韓国と日本が、このように短い期間に世界的な強国として急成長したのは、アジアの時代が来ていることを立証するものであり、決して偶然ではなく、歴史的な必然です。

             History has shown that the country that controls the seas will become a world leader.

             We must prepare ourselves for the new oceanic era. The Pacific era is at hand. Anyone who cannot rule the ocean cannot become a leader in the Pacific age. If heavenly fortune comes and we are not prepared, we cannot take advantage of the opportunity.

　There are more resources than fish in the ocean. A greater treasure is its ability to provide energy. As crude oil reserves decrease, a sense of crisis over sources of energy is growing day by day. If the world runs out of oil, human civilization will immediately find itself in the dark. There is an effort to develop alternative energy from corn, but this does not seem realistic when there is not enough food being distributed to feed the world’s population as it is.

The true alternative energy source is the ocean. Energy from the hydrogen in the sea represents the future of humanity. Two-third of the earth’s surface is water. This means that two-thirds of the raw materials that humanity needs for the future are contained in the ocean. A new future of humanity cannot be accomplished without the ocean’s resources. Developed countries are already extracting oil and natural gas from the ocean and selling it at high prices. The world has only begun to discover the resources in the ocean. The day is at hand when humanity will find itself dependent on the ocean.

             The oceanic era will not begin without human effort. We must first go out into the ocean. We must go out on boats and fight the waves. Without such courage we cannot prepare ourselves for the oceanic age. The country that conquers the oceans will become the dominant power in the world and find the world eager to study its culture and language. Korea must become the champion steward of the Pacific Ocean. It must understand the will of the Creator and manage His resources well.

The oceans can become a central point for bringing the world together.  To take ownership over the ocean we must be trained to live on it with the same ease as we live on land. (Page 301)

The issue of food will present humankind with a very serious crisis in the future. We cannot build a world of peace without first resolving the food issue. Sufficient food supplies for all the world’s population cannot be produced on the limited amount of land area that is currently available. We must look to the ocean for a solution. The oceans hold the key to solving the food crisis of the future. This is the reason I have been pioneering the oceans for the past several decades. (Page 313)

             The ocean is a blessing bequeathed to us by God. (Page 314)

Civilization developed from Egypt to Greece then to Rome and to Britain and the United States and is now moving toward the Pacific region surrounding the Korean peninsula. The era of a Pacific civilization is opening, bringing together Western science and Eastern spirituality. The leaders in this new era will be nations like Korea and its Asian neighbors. It is not by mere coincidence that Korea and Japan have been able to rise to international prominence in such a short time. This development was a historical inevitability pointing to the Asian era. (Page 298)
