When there is some free time like after school or having duty off, which
activity is the most beneficial to the young people whose age is between 14 and
18?
-Having
part time job and volunteering in community -Learning sports activity
-Learning
to play a musical instrument
Over the past few decades, and increased
variety of options and choices of how to spend free time efficiently have been
proposed to young people whose age is between 14 and 18. So, it
has been generally discussed which is better for young people among having a
part time job and volunteering community, learning sports activity, and
learning to play a musical instrument. Some might argue that
having a doing work or learning music would be most beneficial for students to
do on their free time. Others might have other opinions. However,
I am deeply convinced that learning sports in young people’s free time would
extremely benefit them in many ways. Actually, I have a couple of reasons
to state my opinion. I will explain and develop them in the next following
paragraphs.
First of all, learning sports activity can allow
students to overcome difficulties in life by giving them confidence. Young
students around 14 to 18 years old lack much confidence and are greatly
affected by insecurities. Sports activities can help
them grow confidence and bravery which will lead to the ability to face such
obstacles in life. Although some people might say that young people should go
through new experiences that will teach them more about their future in society
such as having a part time job or volunteering, new experiences about the
future is useless for young people because they lack the ability to fully adapt
in their present lives. To give a personal example of this, I
was bullied for having a big scar on my face which I got from a car accident
that happened when I was young. The bullies would follow me every day after
school and not only physically but also verbally abuse me. They made fun of my
face and told me that I was no good, and their words seemed to kill every inch
of my confidence. They threatened that they’ll keep hurting me if I told
anybody, and I kept silent as they pleased. One day, one of my neighbors saw
them bullying me, and he suggested that we should jog one hour a day after
school when I had free time. He jogged me every morning to school and back home
after school. He taught me how to run fast and for a long period of time. I didn’t
know how confident I became until my bullies found me alone again. They made
fun of my mom, my grades and my scar, and they told me that I should have a
large tattoo on my face to cover it up. I was so angry that I screamed that the
only tattoo I’m going to get was their faces on my fist. So I punched them hard
and ran away. I ran so fast that none of them could even follow up on me. Even
when they stopped running after me I kept running faster because I never felt more
courageous in my life. Through learning sports in my free time, I didn’t
achieve any musical taste or experiences of working in society. However, learning
sports gave me something that can’t result from other activities: the strength
of the heart.
Moreover, learning sports activity can also affect
our attitude toward other subjects as well. Enough
physical activity is really important for the health of young people who
usually sits on a chair for a long period of time and eats a lot of junk food. Although
some people might say that P.E class in school is enough physical activity for
young people and that young people need to be more inspired by learning musical
instruments in their free time, young people’s daily lives are actually greatly
influenced by their overall body health. For example, a survey was taken in a high school in Korea. Young
people between age 14 and 18 was questioned about their school lives, and a
camera was installed in their classroom to see how they are in class. One group
of students answered the survey by saying that they do additional sports
activities because their P.E classes aren’t enough for them. The other group of
students answered that they either go to music academies or part time jobs or
volunteering centers in their free time. Surprisingly, the camera evidently
proved that the group of students who does not do any additional sports
activities slept for over 4 hours in school. They also didn’t eat much
nutritious food at lunch time, and they easily caught colds and spine problems.
Their grades aren’t so pretty as well. On the other hand, the group of students
who does additional sports activities had enough sleep at night, paid attention
in class, got enough grades and didn’t have any health problems often. They also
replied that if it hadn’t been for the learning of sports, they wouldn’t have
been in a good shape for the learning of academics.
