Today's Meditation
“Why are you afraid? You of weak faith!” The Greek word translated "You of little faith!" in Jesus' words is "You of little faith!" Or it could be translated as “O ye of little faith!” As Jesus said, the disciples were people who had little faith even though they were with Jesus. Even though they experienced the Sermon on the Mount and the many miracles Jesus performed afterward, their faith is completely destroyed in the face of the storm that is now right in front of their eyes. “Lord, please save us. We are about to die.”
But there is one important point. The point is that Jesus did not ignore the cries of his disciples, who could be said to have little faith. Rather, Jesus rebukes the “wind and the lake” that drove his disciples into fear of death. No matter how small our faith may be, even if we have almost no faith at all, Jesus never turns away our voices seeking Him in that faith.
As we live in this world, there are times when the temptation of sin and evil shakes our lives.
Yes. There are times when a moment approaches that drags us into the fear of darkness. At such moments, as described in today's Gospel, “Jesus was sleeping,” it may feel like a sleeping God, a God who has nothing to do with pain or suffering. But take courage. Just as He was with His disciples through the storm, He is surely with us through the storm we experience.
What is important to us is 'the choice to ask Jesus for help.' Just as the disciples, who had little faith, looked to Jesus and asked for help, we would do well to remember that He is with us and choose to seek Him. What we really need to guard against is not our weak faith, but our unwillingness to pray even in desperate situations. This is because a life of faith without prayer is a life of faith that has completely lost the way to find Jesus. Are you a person of faith who prays?
"
Lord, save me. We are about to die." Amen.⊕
