“Fear changes what you are capable of seeing (via the lens your looking through) because your mind is searching for threat or danger it filters out everything else. Do not fight against or resist negative thoughts/emotions that arise in you (it will only strengthen them). Instead, witness them from the space of detachment (having an objective perspective); as if you’re observing another person engaging in that experience. Identity is a collection of thoughts built through the roles you play, labels you use to describe yourself, repetition and memory you carry.
Ask yourself “why am I choosing to entertain undesired thoughts/narratives by giving them my personal power and attention?” Instead of making excuses by saying, “this is just the way I am, think and feel or ‘I’ have no other choice but to believe this way. Negative emotions draw strength from your mind-generated identity. When a feeling is taken personally, it feels more convincing. The moment something threatens your self-image, the emotional reactions get stronger. You must admit that you have decided to identify with self-limiting ideas of who you think you are (in unawareness) because choosing to embrace a new and positive perspective in its place frightens or threatens your personal sense of self (playing the victim-card).
Having negative thoughts or emotions are never the problem. It is identifying, personalizing, protecting and supplying it with our energy that creates the problem. Fear-based thinking is just another passing, mental event in the body-mind; it does not in anyway represent or serve your true nature. All thoughts, appearances and experiences are witnessed in your seeing. Be present in the midst of every experience (without claiming ownership); reality does not negotiate with your expectations. Start seeing from the space of non-dual emptiness (the invisible field of limitless possibility) and they will eventually leave you like passing clouds in the sky. In the absence of inner resistance, emotional states will begin to lose their authority over your identity. Feelings still come and go but they do not define who you are.”
Keep repeating this wisdom over and over to yourself whenever negative thought-patterns begin to arise in your awareness.
