But all indications from the warm glow of his first trip to Denver are Anthony will end up a Nugget. "They got his name over the locker," said BDA Sports president Bill Duffy, whose agency represents Anthony. "That's a strong indication. Otherwise, it's a cruel joke." Anthony arrived in Denver from the Bay Area on Sunday night and from that point was treated like a superstar that the Nuggets can only hope he can become for them. At Denver International Airport he was greeted by calls of "Carmelo, Carmelo." Television camera crews awaited the 2003 NCAA Final Four most outstanding player's arrival at baggage claim. "I felt like I was at Syracuse again," said Anthony, 19. "Three camera crews were there. I was like, 'Wow.' Everyone was screaming Carmelo. ... This will be real exciting if I come to Denver." Teams usually take prospective draft picks to fancy restaurants during official visits. But the Nuggets gave him a welcome party at general manager Kiki Vandeweghe's Cherry Creek mansion. "We don't do this for everybody. Having said that, Carmelo is not everybody," Vandeweghe said. Anthony said: "I thought to myself, 'They must have high expectations if the GM of the Denver Nuggets invites me to his house.' It says to me that they want me to be part of the team right now." Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke, his wife, Ann, and son, Josh, attended. Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik and assistant GMs David Fredman and Jeff Weltman and guards <a href="http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E25613%257E974497%257E,00.html" target="new">Vincent Yarbrough</a> and Junior Harrington were there, too. "We just wanted to show him that we were a family, all the way to the top," Vandeweghe said. "He really saw the type of people we are." And during dinner, Anthony talked with Stan Kroenke, who sat next to him. "We had a good chat," Kroenke said. "He's a very poised young guy. Very poised. (Kansas City Chiefs coach) Dick Vermeil always talks to me about character type of players that get drafted. I see Carmelo like that." Following dinner, Carmelo and Co. watched Game 6 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and New Jersey Nets. Duffy has been in the sports-agent business for more than 15 years, represents such all-stars as Yao Ming and Steve Nash and has had two players drafted No. 1 (Yao and Michael Olowokandi). But he said he has never been a part of the hospitality the Nuggets showed Anthony. "It was a more intimate than I've ever experienced," Duffy said. Anthony took a tour of the Nuggets' practice facility at the Pepsi Center on Monday morning before going through a short workout. The 6-foot-7 1/2, 233-pounder went through a dunking agility drill and took numerous jumpers in front of a Jordanesque media contingent, Kroenke and the Nuggets' entire coaching and front office staff. Vandeweghe was impressed, as was Bzdelik, who said, "We need him, we really do." Anthony said he has been shooting about 1,000 jumpers while working out three times a day in the Bay Area. If drafted by the Nuggets, he plans on arriving in Denver immediately to get used to his new surroundings and the thin air. "I will be back," Anthony said.
