『The River』는 1980년 발매된「Bruce Springsteen」

정규 앨범 타이틀 곡으로 그 해 최고의 앨범이라는 평가를 받은

그의 하모니카 연주와 멜로디가 상당히 애절(哀切)한

"가난하게 자라나 꿈을 이루지 못한 채 어렵게 살아가는

수많은 평범한 부부의 스토리"를 다루고 있습니다.

「Bruce Springsteen」(1949년생)은 미국의

세계적인 싱어 송 라이터로서 별명은 'The Boss'이며,

20개의 그래미 상, 2개의 골든 글로브 상, 1개의

아카데미상을 수상하였는데,

"개인주의가 팽배한 도시 생활의 절박함 · 꿈 · 욕망·

좌절· 실패 등을 주제로 노래"한 그는 '가장 미국적인

로커(Rocker)'로 평가 받고 있습니다

또한 그는 1994년 영화《필라델피아》의 주제가

'Streets of Philadelphia' 로 아카데미 주제가 상을

수상 하였고 2002년에는 2001년에 일어난 '911 테러

사건'에 영감(靈感)을 받은 앨범 "The Rising"을

발표하면서 3개의 Grammy Awards를 수상 하였습니다.
