데이브 머스테인의 GIGANTOUR는 7월 말쯤에 가동 예정으로 드림 시어터, 피어 팩토리, 딜린저 이스케이프 플랜, 네버모어가 참가합니다. 6주간의 북미 순방으로 메가데스가 메인스테이지에 선다는 게 확정이란 소리일까요(?)










It's called GIGANTOUR, and it's the brainchild of MEGADETH frontman/guitarist DAVE MUSTAINE.



GIGANTOUR라 불리는 이것은 메가데스의 프론트맨이자 기타리스트인 데이브 머스테인의 창작물입니다.



Set to launch in late July, GIGANTOUR is a six-week festival trek co-headlined by MEGADETH and DREAM THEATER, who'll be accompanied by other mainstage acts Fear Factory, Dillinger Escape Plan and Nevermore. Artists for the second stage will be announced in the coming weeks.



7월 말 예정으로, GIGANTOUR는 메가데스와 드림 시어터의 공동 헤드라인으로 진행되는 6주간의 행사입니다. 그리고 피어 팩토리와 딜린저 이스케이프 플랜, 네버모어도 메인 스테이지에 설 거구요. 세컨드 스테이지에 설 아티스트들은 추후에 공개될 예정이랍니다.





GIGANTOUR follows MEGADETH's sold-out 2004 "Blackmail The Universe" Tour in support of 2004's THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED--MEGADETH's tenth studio album--which debuted on the charts at #18 and was critically hailed as a brilliant return to form. Bandmates Glen Drover (guitar), James MacDonough (bass) and Shawn Drover (drums) will once again join MUSTAINE on the road.



GIGANTOUR 는 차트 18위로 데뷔했으나 (as a brilliant return to form 구절이 해석이 좀 안 되네요...;)비판, 악담이 쏟아지기도 한 2004년 작 The System Has Failed - 메가데스의 공식 10집 - 의 서포트에 힘입어 매진 행렬이었던 2004 "Blackmail The Universe" 투어의 뒤를 잇는다. 밴드 동료인 글렌 드로버(기타), 제임스 맥도나우(베이스), 숀 드로버(드럼)가 다시 한 번 머스테인의 여정에 합류하게 될 것이다.



GIGANTOUR--whose moniker was inspired by the classic 1960's cartoon "Gigantor"--will criss-cross North America, with stops in amphitheatres and arenas in cities including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Montreal, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, Denver and Minneapolis, among others. The tour is implementing the "fan friendly" ticket price of approximately $35 each. MUSTAINE notes: "I think people may want an affordable alternative to the choices out there--along the lines of a pure music festival--like Monsters of Rock or Clash of the Titans."



GIGANTOUR - 이 별칭은 60년대 만화인 "Gigantor"에서 착안했다 - 는 로스 앤젤레스, 뉴욕, 시카고, 디트로이트, 토론토, 몬트리올, 워싱턴, 필라델피아, 보스턴, 덴버, 미니애폴리스 등의 도시에 있는 무대들(amphitheatre는 로마의 원형경기장에서 유래한 걸로 좀 더 착석과 관람의 이미지가 짙고, arena는 모래를 깐 곳이란 말에서 유래한 도장, 무대 등의 의미니 좀 더 놀이마당, 클럽의 이미지가 짙을 것 같군요.)에 들러가며 북아메리카를 누빌 것이다. 대략 35$ 선의 가격의 "팬을 위한" 티켓 가격을 책정할 것이라고 한다. 머스테인은 덧붙이길 : "난 사람들이 Monsters of Rock 이나 Clash of the Titans (다른 투어들 이름인가요...?) 같은 정통 음악 페스티벌의 줄을 따르는 것들에 비해 적당한 가격의 대안을 원할 것이라 생각한다."





MUSTAINE handpicked the bands for GIGANTOUR, with a focus on musicianship. "There are few very successful tours out each summer and in order to be significant, I knew the first Gigantour had to make an impact with top bands like DREAM THEATER, Fear Factory, Dillinger Escape Plan and Nevermore." MUSTAINE wanted to "put together a festival that consisted of positive bands that play heavy music in a high energy environment."



머스테인은 GIGANTOUR에 참가시킬 밴드를 정말 뮤지션십에 입각해 엄선했다. "매 여름의 투어 중 성공하는 투어는 그리 얼마 되지 않는다. 그래서 난 신중을 기하기 위해선 첫번째 GIGANTOUR에 드림 시어터, 피어 팩토리, 딜린져 이스케이프 플랜, 네버모어 같은 탑 밴드를 동원해 충격을 안겨주어야 한다고 생각했다." 머스테인은 "보증된 헤비 뮤직 밴드들로 구성된 열광적 분위기의 페스티벌을 함께하길" 원했다.





MUSTAINE comments on the other bands he's chosen for the GIGANTOUR mainstage. "I think that the variety of playing styles and the credibility of the different players is really exciting. I'm looking forward to spending time with DREAM THEATER--including my friend Mike Portnoy--while on the road. I think DREAM THEATER is unbelievably talented. I can't wait to see what their set list is going to be for this festival."



머스테인은 GIGANTOUR 메인스테이지에 서게끔 선택한 다른 밴드들에 대해도 언급했다. "난 다른 연주자들의 연주 스타일의 다양성과 그들의 진실성(?)(Credibility가 왜 나왔는지 모르겠군요)이 정말로 흥미진진하리라 생각한다. 난 드림 시어터와 - 내 친구 마이크 포트노이를 포함해서 - 투어에서 보낼 시간을 고대하고 있다. 난 드림 시어터가 믿을 수 없을 만큼 재능있다고 생각한다. 난 그들이 이번 페스티벌에 어떤 셋 리스트를 들고 나올지 기다리느라 목이 빠질 지경이다."





Mike Portnoy from DREAM THEATER comments on the band's perspective on the tour. "I think we probably bring some diversity to the bill, because we're kind of like chameleons--we can fit into a lot of different situations. We've done shows in the past with Iron Maiden, Slayer and Pantera, and then we've also done shows with Elton John, Yes and Deep Purple. I think our fan base is very diverse like that too." Portnoy sees GIGANTOUR as a "kind of a meeting of musicians and metal-heads." He adds: "I've been listening to MEGADETH since day one and always admired them and Dave as an artist--he's constantly stuck to his guns and stuck by the music he believes in. MEGADETH are one of the pioneers of the genre." GIGANTOUR marks the first U.S. leg of DREAM THEATER dates in support of their forthcoming release OCTAVARIUM, due out June 7 on Atlantic Records.



드림 시어터의 마이크 포트노이는 이 투어에 대한 밴드의 시각에 대해 언급했습니다. "난 우리가 더 다양성을 안겨주리라고 생각한다. 우린 카멜레온 같은 존재기 때문이다! -- 우린 이런 저런 다양한 곳에 들어맞을 수 있다. 우리는 과거에 아이언 메이든, 슬레이어, 판테라와 공연을 한 적이 있고, 또 엘튼 존, 예스, 딥 퍼플과도 공연을 한 적이 있다. 난 우리 팬 층이 그 정도로 다양하다고 생각합니다." 포트노이는 GIGANTOUR 에 대해 "음악인들과 메탈-헤드(뭔 뜻인지는 다들 아시죠?)들의 만남 같은 것"으로 본다고 합니다. 그는 덧붙여 : "난 메가데스에 대해 쭉 들어오면서 줄곧 그들과 데이브를 아티스트로서 동경해왔다 - 그는 총에 끊임없는 집착을 보이고 그가 선호하는 음악에 매혹되어 있다(?)(왜 총 얘기가 갑자기 튀어나오는지는 불명이군요. 기타를 총에 비유하는 건지...;) 메가데스는 그 장르의 선구자 중 하나다." GIGANTOUR는 드림시어터가 다가오는 6월 7일에 애틀랜틱 레코드를 통해 발매하는 차기작 Octavarium 의 서포트에 힘입어 첫 공연의 매듭을 풀게 될 것이다.





MUSTAINE first toured with Fear Factory in 1994. "I think Fear Factory and Dillinger Escape Plan are really going to add something different to the tour and bring some new people in." He continues, "The frontman of Nevermore [Warrell Dane] used to be in a band called Sanctuary and I produced their first record."



머스테인은 피어 팩토리와 1994년에 처음 투어를 돌았다. "난 피어 팩토리와 딜린저 이스케이프 플랜이 색다른 무언가를 투어에 안겨줌으로써 새로운 사람들을 끌어들일 거라고 생각한다." 그는 이어, "네버모어의 프론트맨 - 워렐 데인 - 은 생츄어리라는 내가 첫 음반을 프로듀싱해준 밴드 소속이었다." 라고 했다.



MUSTAINE is excited to hit the road and has a positive outlook for GIGANTOUR. "I look forward to watching this develop over the years and seeing how we can turn this into something that's going to stand the test of time. And if this works, and it really works, maybe we'll take it elsewhere."



머스테인은 GIGANTOUR에 대해 긍정적인 시각을 보이며 잔뜩 흥분한 듯했다. "난 수년간 계획하고 이제 막 실험대에 올릴 이것이 정말 기대된다. 이게, 이게 정말 성공한다면, 아마도 우린 다른 지역으로도 이걸 계속 끌어갈 수 있을 거다."

뭔가 스케일이 크다는 느낌을 강조하기 위해서겠죠...? ^ㅡ^;; 피어 팩토리는 인더스트리얼에서 알아주는 편이고, 딜린져는 하드코어 쪽에서(사실 이제 하드코어는 장르라기보단 사상에 근접한 느낌;) 알아주는 편이고... 짬뽕파티랄까~
