[틈틈이 영어공부] Fire away. What's on your mind?

- 영한 : (바로 쏘듯이)질문하다, (명령문 형태로 쓰여) 말/질문하세요, 얼마든지 얘기하세요, 어서 말해보세요.

- 영영 : informal used in speech to tell someone to begin asking you questions

- 예문 : 

‘I’ve got a few questions.’ ‘OK then, fire away.’ 
“제가 몇 가지 질문이 있어요.” “좋아요, 그럼. 물어 보세요.”

So I’ll just fire away then, shall I? 
그럼, 바로 질문 시작할까요?

If you want me to hear your complaints, fire away! 
자, 내게 고충을 털어놓으려거든 어서 시작하세요.

(존이 에리카에게 사무실로 오라고 청한다…)

John: Come in, Erica.
존: 어서 와요.

Erica: Hi John.
에리카: 안녕하세요.

John: Hi Erica. Randy told me yesterday that you wanted to talk to me.
존: 안녕하세요. 랜디가 어제 그러는데 나한테 할 얘기가 있다고요.

Erica: Yes. I wanted to get some feedback on some ideas I have.
에리카: 네. 제게 아이디어가 몇 개 있는데 의견 좀 듣고 싶어서요.

John: Fire away. What's on your mind?
존: 어서 얘기해보세요. 무슨 얘기죠?

Erica: I have an idea that may help with the number of students in some classes.
에리카: 몇몇 과목에 있어서 많은 학생들에게 도움이 될만한 아이디어가 있어요.

John: Yes. We have two classes with very low registration and attendance.
존: 그렇죠. 등록 출석률이 아주 저조한 수업이 두 개가 있죠.

Erica: Classes 1 and 3 right?
에리카: 1반과 3반이죠?

John: That's right. What's your idea?
존: 맞아요. 무슨 아이디어인가요?

Erica: Take some students in class 2 and put them in class 1 …
에리카: 2반 학생 몇을 1반에 넣고요…

John: And take some students in class 4 and put them in class 3?
존: 그리고 4반 학생 몇을 3반에 넣는다?

Erica: You've got the picture.
에리카: 제 말을 알아들으셨군요.

John: I like it. Let's have a meeting with all the teachers involved.
존: 좋아요. 선생님 모두들을 모아서 회의를 해봅시다.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶ get some feedback (on something): ~의 반응 의견 등을 알아보다
"I'd like to get your feedback on the plan I suggested for the company picnic." 
(회사 야유회를 위해 제안한 계획에 대한 선생님 의견을 좀 들어보고 싶은데요.)

▶ you've got the picture: 제 말을 알아들으셨군요
Jim: "Paint the corners of the room first and then the walls?" 
(코너부터 페인트를 칠하고 그 후에 벽을 칠하라고요?)

Roger: "That's right. You've got the picture." 
(맞아요. 제 얘기를 잘 이해하셨군요.)
