        A “Banana Slug” Lesson   “바나나 달팽이”의 교훈

           Micah 6:1-8

[미] 6:1	Listen to what the LORD says: "Stand up, plead your case before the mountains;  let the hills hear what you have to say.
[미] 6:2	Hear, O mountains, the LORD'S accusation; listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth. For the LORD has a case against his people; he is lodging a charge against Israel.
[미] 6:3	"My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me.
[미] 6:4	I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. I sent Moses to lead you, also Aaron and Miriam.
[미] 6:5	My people, remember what Balak king of Moab counseled and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the LORD."
[미] 6:6	With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?
[미] 6:7	Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
[미] 6:8	He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

[미] 6:1	너희는 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다 너는 일어나서 산을 향하여 변론하여 작은 산들이 네 목소리를 듣게 하라 하셨나니
[미] 6:2	너희 산들과 땅의 견고한 지대들아 너희는 여호와의 변론을 들으라 여호와께서 자기 백성과 변론하시며 이스라엘과 변론하실 것이라
[미] 6:3	이르시기를 내 백성아 내가 무엇을 네게 행하였으며 무슨 일로 너를 괴롭게 하였느냐 너는 내게 증언하라
[미] 6:4	내가 너를 애굽 땅에서 인도해 내어 종 노릇 하는 집에서 속량하였고 모세와 아론과 미리암을 네 앞에 보냈느니라
[미] 6:5	내 백성아 너는 모압 왕 발락이 꾀한 것과 브올의 아들 발람이 그에게 대답한 것을 기억하며 싯딤에서부터 길갈까지의 일을 기억하라 그리하면 나 여호와가 공의롭게 행한 일을 알리라 하실 것이니라

[미] 6:6	내가 무엇을 가지고 여호와 앞에 나아가며 높으신 하나님께 경배할까 내가 번제물로 일 년 된 송아지를 가지고 그 앞에 나아갈까
[미] 6:7	여호와께서 천천의 숫양이나 만만의 강물 같은 기름을 기뻐하실까 내 허물을 위하여 내 맏아들을, 내 영혼의 죄로 말미암아 내 몸의 열매를 드릴까
[미] 6:8	사람아 주께서 선한 것이 무엇임을 네게 보이셨나니 여호와께서 네게 구하시는 것은 오직 정의를 행하며 인자를 사랑하며 겸손하게 네 하나님과 함께 행하는 것이 아니냐

스포츠 팀의 이름은 그 기원이 다양합니다.

그 이름들은 역사로부터(스파르탄즈, 마운터니어즈), 혹은 자연으로부터(카디날즈, 테라핀즈),

혹은 색깔로부터(오렌지, 레즈) 기원합니다. 연체동물로부터 기원한 이름도 있습니다.

Sports team names have a variety of origins.

They come from history (Spartans, Mountaineers), nature (Cardinals, Terrapins),

and even colors (Orange, Reds). One even comes from the mollusk family.

1980년대에 산타크루즈 캘리포니아 대학은 이제 막 스포츠 시합에 참여하고 있었습니다.

이 대학은 몇몇 명문대학들이 스포츠 시합에 지나치게 역점을 두는 것이 문제라고 생각하였기 때문에,

총학생회는 이러한 다소 색다른 접근 방식을 담은 팀 이름을 찾다가

노랗고 미끈덕미끈덕하며, 느려빠진 껍질 없는 연체동물 ‘바나나 달팽이’로 결정하였습니다.

그 재치 있는 결정은 그 대학으로 하여금 스포츠의 상대적인 가치를 균형 잡힌 시각으로 볼 수 있게 해주었습니다.

In the 1980s, the University of California at Santa Cruz was

just starting to get involved in competitive sports.

UCSC had a bit of disdain for the overemphasis some big-time schools place on athletics,

so the student body sought a team name that would reflect a somewhat different approach.

They decided on the Banana Slug, a yellow, slimy, slow, shell-less mollusk.

It was a clever way for UCSC to give a balanced perspective on the relative worth of sports.

나도 항상 스포츠를 좋아해왔지만,

그것이 쉽게 원래의 의도보다 지나치게 중요한 일로 되어버릴 수 있다는 것을 잘 압니다.

인생에서 가장 중요한 것은, 예수님께서 가장 중요하다고 말씀하신대로

마음을 다하여 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 우리 자신처럼 사랑하는 것입니다(마 22:37-39).

미가 선지자는 하나님께서 요구하시는 것은 “공의를 행하며”, “인자를 사랑하며”,

“겸손히 네 하나님과 함께 행하는”(6:8) 것이라고 열거하였습니다.

예수님을 믿는 우리에게, 하나님이 우리에게 바라시는 것보다 더 우위에 둘 수 있는 것은 아무것도 없습니다.

I have always loved sports,

but I know that they can easily become more important than they should be.

What matters most in life is what Jesus said is most vital

—loving God with all of our hearts and loving our neighbors as ourselves (Matt. 22:37-39).

Micah listed God’s requirements this way: “do justly,” “love mercy,”

and “walk humbly with your God” (6:8).

For believers in Jesus,

it is vital that nothing else takes top priority over God’s expectations for us.

당신에게 가장 중요한 것은 무엇입니까? 스파르탄즈 팀입니까? 레드 삭스 팀입니까?

아니면 생각과 말과 행동으로 하나님을 사랑하는 것입니까?

What matters most to you? The Spartans? The Red Sox?

Or loving God in thought, word, and action? — Bill Crowder

Lord, what matters most to You today? What can direct us in each thing we do? Could it be to let nothing at all Interfere with our deep love for You?  Beware of spending too much time on matters of too little importance.

주님, 무엇이 오늘 주님께 가장 중요합니까? 우리가 하는 일 중에 우리를 이끌리게 하는 것이 있더라도 그 어느 것도 주님을 향한 깊은 사랑을 가로막지 않게 해 주소서 아주 사소한 일에 너무 많은 시간을 허비하지 않도록 조심하라.
