THE MASKED SLASHER "What's that noise?" asked Adrian Monk. Monk and Sharona stopped and listened. A recent downpour had left the downtown streets shiny, and Monk saw a single set of footprints leading back into a shadowy alley. And then the noise came again. Human. A desperate moan. They followed the prints into the dead-end alley. A young man was collapsed in a corner. "Some guy in a mask," he groaned. "Chased me with a knife. I ran in here, but I fell and he got me." His chest wounds were still bleeding. "He must've thought I was dead." "You'll be all right," Sharona promised. The man in the alley proved not to be the only victim that night. But he was the lucky one - he survived. Just a block away, in another alley, a woman had been stabbed to death. "She put up quite a fight," said Captain Stottlemeyer as his men zipped up the body bag. "But it didn't help. We found the knife and mask in a trash can. No prints." The streets had been fairly empty, but the police did manage to detain one suspect, a middle-aged man in a black turtleneck and dark slacks. He vaguely fit the surviving victim's description of his assailant. "My name's Vinny Fine." He was standing beside a compact SUV. "My car broke down, and I just called for a tow." Captain Stottlemeyer asked to see the man's cell phone. He pressed the redial button and was instantly connecting to a local tow service. "All right, sir, did you see anything? Any suspicious people hanging around?" "It's all right, Captain," whispered Monk. "I don't need to hear anything more." WHAT DOES MONK THINK HAPPENED?

첫댓글 Maybe the owner of 'SUV' is the dead woman. The woman might observe the scene of that crime and told the service man about it a little while she was calling for a tow.So, Vinny killed her and stole her car. I wonder...
I guess the young man killed the woman. He got his chest wounds from her strong resistance. He mentioned a guy in a mask with a knife. It was himself. That's why he could describe...
