1. 오늘의 묵상칼럼 : 시험받는 믿음, 성령께서 붙드시는 믿음

“이것이 너희의 간구와 예수 그리스도의 성령의 도우심으로 나를 구원에 이르게 할 줄 아는고로”  빌립보서 1장 19절

“예수께서 이르시되 내 말이 네가 믿으면 하나님의 영광을 보리라 하지 아니하였느냐 하시니”  요한복음 11장 40절

지금 당신이 겪고 있는 믿음의 시련은 무엇입니까?

  우리는 믿음이 있으면 모든 일이 순조롭게 풀릴 것이라고 생각하기 쉽습니다. 그러나 성경은 오히려 믿음이 현실과 부딪히는 순간을 보여줍니다. 바울은 복음을 전하다 감옥에 갇혔고, 앞날을 알 수 없는 상황에 놓였습니다. 그러나 그는 자신의 상황을 바라보며 낙심하지 않았습니다. 성도들의 기도와 예수 그리스도의 성령의 도우심을 통해 하나님께서 자신을 붙드시고 결국 구원에 이르게 하실 것을 믿었습니다.

  오스왈드 챔버스는 믿음은 반드시 시험을 받아야 한다고 말합니다. 믿음의 시련은 우리의 믿음이 참된 것인지 드러내기 때문입니다. 때로는 그 시험이 우리의 믿음을 더욱 견고하게 만들지만, 반대로 그 시험 앞에서 하나님보다 현실을 더 크게 바라보면 우리의 믿음이 흔들릴 수도 있습니다.

나사로의 무덤 앞에 서신 예수님께서 마르다에게 말씀하셨습니다.

“네가 믿으면 하나님의 영광을 보리라.”

  아직 무덤은 닫혀 있었습니다. 나사로는 이미 죽었습니다. 현실만 바라본다면 믿을 이유가 없어 보였습니다. 그러나 예수님은 현실의 가능성을 말씀하신 것이 아니라 하나님을 믿는 믿음이 바라보아야 할 하나님의 영광을 말씀하셨습니다.

 우리에게도 이런 순간이 있습니다.
기도해도 상황이 달라지지 않을 때가 있습니다.
열심히 믿었는데 오히려 어려움이 찾아올 때도 있습니다.
하나님께서 일하신다고 믿지만 눈앞의 현실은 정반대로 흘러갈 때도 있습니다.

바로 그때가 믿음의 시험대입니다.

  그러므로 오늘의 시련을 단순히 “없어져야 할 문제”로만 바라보지 마십시오. 하나님께서는 그 시련을 통해 내가 무엇을 믿고 있는지 드러내시고, 나의 믿음을 더욱 예수 그리스도께 깊이 뿌리내리게 하실 수 있습니다.

중요한 것은 내가 얼마나 강한 믿음을 가지고 있느냐가 아닙니다.
내가 누구를 믿고 있느냐가 중요합니다.

  바울은 자신의 믿음만 의지하지 않았습니다. 성도들의 간구와 예수 그리스도의 성령의 도우심을 의지했습니다. 우리도 마찬가지입니다. 믿음의 시련을 만났을 때 “내가 어떻게 이겨낼까?”라고만 생각하지 말고, “성령께서 오늘도 나를 어떻게 붙들고 계시는가?”​를 바라보아야 합니다.

사랑하는 성도 여러분,
지금 당신의 믿음을 흔드는 현실이 무엇입니까?

그 현실이 하나님의 말씀보다 크게 보이지 않게 하십시오.
무덤이 닫혀 있어도 주님의 말씀을 붙드십시오.
앞이 보이지 않아도 성령의 도우심을 구하십시오.

믿음의 시련은 믿음을 죽이는 시간이 될 수도 있지만, 예수님을 더욱 깊이 신뢰하는 믿음으로 자라나는 시간이 될 수도 있습니다.

오늘도 이렇게 고백하십시오.

“주님, 제가 현실을 보는 눈보다 주님을 바라보는 믿음을 갖게 하소서.
성령께서 저를 붙드시고, 이 시련을 통하여 하나님의 영광을 보게 하소서.”

그리고 기억하십시오.

믿음의 끝에는 문제가 아니라 하나님의 영광이 있습니다.

2. 오늘의 묵상칼럼(영어버전) : Tested Faith, Sustained by the Holy Spirit

“For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.”  Philippians 1:19

“Jesus said to her, ‘Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?’”  John 11:40

What trial of faith are you facing right now?

  We often think that if we have faith, everything will go smoothly. But the Bible shows us something very different. Paul was imprisoned because of the gospel and did not know what the future would hold. Yet he did not simply look at his circumstances and despair. He trusted that through the prayers of believers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, God would sustain him and ultimately bring him to salvation.

  Oswald Chambers reminds us that faith must be tested. The trials of faith reveal whether our faith is genuine. A trial can strengthen our faith, but if we allow our circumstances to become greater than God in our eyes, the same trial can cause our faith to weaken.

Standing before Lazarus’s tomb, Jesus said to Martha:

“If you would believe, you would see the glory of God.”

  The tomb was still closed. Lazarus was already dead. From a human perspective, there seemed to be no reason to hope. Yet Jesus was not asking Martha to believe in the possibilities of circumstances. He was calling her to believe in God and His glory.

We face moments like this too.

Sometimes we pray, but nothing seems to change.
Sometimes difficulties come even though we have faithfully trusted God.
Sometimes we believe God is working, while everything before our eyes seems to say the opposite.

That is the testing ground of faith.

So do not look at your present trial merely as a problem that must disappear. God may use that very trial to reveal what you truly believe and to root your faith more deeply in Jesus Christ.

The important question is not how strong your faith is.
The important question is whom you are trusting.

Paul did not depend merely on the strength of his own faith. He depended on the prayers of believers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. We need to do the same. When trials come, instead of asking only, “How can I overcome this?” ask:

“How is the Holy Spirit sustaining me in this very moment?”

Dear friend,
What reality is shaking your faith today?

Do not allow your circumstances to become greater than God’s Word.
Even when the tomb is closed, hold on to Jesus’ promise.
Even when you cannot see the way forward, ask for the help of the Holy Spirit.

The trial of faith can either weaken our faith or become the very place where our trust in Jesus grows deeper.

Today, let us pray:

“Lord, help me to look to You rather than to the circumstances around me. Give me faith that trusts You more than what I see. Sustain me by Your Holy Spirit, and through this trial, let me see the glory of God.”

Remember this:

At the end of faith, we do not find merely an answer to our problem. We find the glory of God.
